I currently installed the weekly image to my RP4 and everything seems to be running pretty good.

But I do have one major issue and that is I have no sound. I mean not even the default sound when navigating menus in Pie.

I had no issues in RP3 system.

Even video games, none have sound.

I am using the offical RP4 cable and AC adaptor.

I will admit my tv is from 2007 and the resolution is 720p, but I wouldn't think that would make a difference since it worked fine on the old pi3.

Any suggestions? Nothing has been changed, it's all default.

@mat which port on your pi are you plugging your HDMI into? The one furthest from the USB-C power port is for a secondary monitor and carries no audio signal.

I did have it in that port, I just switched it to the closest now and I still have no audio.

I tried it on much more modern 1080P TVs in the house and I don't even get a visual signal or sound.

FYI the HDMI cable, the writing on it, has "High Speed HDMI Cable with Ethernet, e314998 , style 20276, 80c, 30v, vw-1"

Use the raspi-config utility - you can start it from the RetroPie system in EmulationStation - and configure your sound on to use the HDMI.

Well I just tried that and set it to "force sound" through HDMI, I did a restart on the system and it boots up, then restarted to a blank/pinkish screen with nothing.

I never had to do that before.

So now I got to make a whole new image copy again

Not that I know of, does it come overclocked already?

I bought it new from a UK shop in Aug 2019, it stayed in it's box until I tried LAKKA one day just to see how it was, didn't last long since I had the wifi bug freeze lakka all the time.

So the pi4 sat again till this morning when I figured I would try it with a weekly build of Pie.

I live in the U.S., my TV is from 2007, 720p, viewsonic. Never had issues with the old Pie3.

So I am doing a fresh image as I type this, currently loading the roms.

@mat Try another hdmi cable. I have mine on the microhdmi port next to the usb-c power port. “hdmi 0"

@Darksavior Did that earlier, still nothing. Everytime I set it to HDM sound in ANY menu, I reboot and it does the bootup for a few seconds, then reboots again to a blank screen.

So I don't think setting sound through HDMI setting is the way to go of any kind.

You can force the sound on HDMI also from the command line:

                        sudo amixer cset numid=3 2

though I would also check the cable. No sound and video artifacts when enabling it sounds (!) a bit suspicious.

                          That worked @mitu, thank you.

Now I tried to play all the installed systems and every game I play, there is about 1sec lag from my button presses to screen action, I.E. castlevania whipping, jumps.

                          All systems, even mame.

I have a "AV Mode" on the menu that lists game, never used it though, is that what I want?
