Xbox 360 controller disconnects when exiting es

I use an 8bitdo receiver and whenever i exit a game back to
Emulationstation the controller loses connection. Many times it will no longer stay connected unless I unplug and plug back in. So frustrating, but dont know how to fix.
I think its related to everytime i exit a game or emulationstation or anything something happens with the 8bitdo. Like if i i exit ubuntu the controller loses connection too... since its a receiver seems like it should stay connected regardless? -
Does your controller have an 'mode' switch to connect to a PC/Android/Switch/Xbox/PS ? Try starting the controller with the 'Switch' or 'PC' modes and see if it makes a difference.

There is no mode switch, its just the standard xbox 360 remote and a 8bitdo receiver. I think the issue is when you exit or enter a game/emulationstation it appears something happens where the usb briefly loses connection. I found this is a known issue with xpad driver, but ot seems there has to be a flag that allows it to keep a persistant connection regardless of program using the controller.
