Does a power supply degrade over time?
-
Hi all, I've got a Raspberry Pi 3B that all of a sudden is given me low voltage warnings. The strange thing is that I have not changed anything for a while and it is all of a sudden giving me this power issue. Does a power supply degrade over time, or is something on the fritz in the Pi? Last thing I can remember changing is the fan, but I'm pretty sure it still operated normal after this. I might swap this over again this weekend in case that's the problem.
I have an official power supply and my overclock settings are as following:
gpu_mem_256=128
gpu_mem_512=256
gpu_mem_1024=256
overscan_scale=1
arm_freq=1300
over_voltage=6
temp_limit=85
core_freq=500
gpu_freq=500
h264_freq=333
avoid_pwm_pll=1
gpu_mem=550
v3d_freq=500
sdram_freq=500
sdram_schmoo=0x02000020
over_voltage_sdram_p=6
over_voltage_sdram_i=4
over_voltage_sdram_c=4
hdmi_drive=2 -
Is it plugged directly to the wall?
The short answer is yes the ac/dc adapters can go bad and output less voltage over time.
The long answer is that this generally takes a very long time. If you are plugged into a surge protector or power strip that is much more likely to be the culprit imo.
