      Hi there,

I seem to have two permission issues, but I'm not completely sure about it.

First thing is with the Joystick selection tool. When I want to swap to the selection by name method I am getting a command prompt saying access denied.

Second, yesterday I spent an hour compiling a custom game collection list via the ES main menu. When booting the machine this morning, the list was gone. I am just taking a guess that there is maybe an issue that doesn't allow the list to save.

As a newbie, I then thought I would just log in to emulationstation as root, but that doesn't seem to be possible.

      Thanks for your help,

      Tim

Please add more info about your system, as detailed in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.

Is this when you're starting a game or configuring it for from the RetroPie setup ?

Did you shutdown your system from the EmulationStation menu ? The list is saved under $HOME/.emulationstations/collections.

That's not recommended and it's not supported.

Thanks Mitu. I am at lunch break at work, can't check right now what Retropie version I have, but I will do once I get home.

It happens when I try configuring the tool from the Retropie Setup. The command box then pops up at the bottom of the screen to say access denied.

Yes, I powered ES down over the menu. I will try to look the list up by SSH or the command line interface, whatever is best. But will this bring it back into ES ?

Not sure, but you can check the permissions of said folder. You can also find it over file shares at \\retropie\configs\all\emulationstation.

Try to create a file/folder there. Or you can just check them from WinSCP (SSH).

I just browsed to the Collection folder in \retropie\configs\all\emulationstation (using windows file explorer). It is empty. So I guess the custom list didn't save.
The Collection and the Gamelist folder say read only. Is that normal ?

No, I don't think so - probably that's why your collection was not saved. On the other hand, Windows always shows folders as 'read-only'. You can check by trying to create a file in one of the folders.

Thanks @mitu. It works now for the custom lists.

About the joystick selection tool permission issue, I'm waiting for a new Xinmo interface shipment before pushing further. Once I have it I will try again. I have a 4 player board on my arcade. I would need longer GPIO cables to follow my initial plan to connect player 3 and 4 on one Xinmo, but those cables come from China and seem to be out of stock due to the disruption of global value chains.

I hope that the Joystick selection tool will allow to connect P1 and P3 on one Xinmo, P2 and P4 on the other (considering cable length), then reallocating the players with the tool. If I can make it work.
