"Safe" to upgrade from current Pi4 builds when public is released?
-
Since I'm pretty much stuck at home during these time I feel that I need a new project. So I am considering trying out the Pi4 image.
Just one questions on this. Will I be able to update a nightly build to the public image, once released, or should that then be a clean install? Reason for asking is that it will be pretty much work with all the customs configurations, scraping etc and I want to avoid doing the same work several times...

AFAIR it might be possible, but it is not guranteed yet.
Concerning configs, scraped data etc.: i use to backup all those things like configuration-files, gamelists, downloaded_images, hiscores, save-files,(…).
If you collect all that important data a new setup from scratch is not that problem anymore.
I use to safe all this data on my smartphone (400GB SD-Card inside) plus all roms & isos.
With that i can create a new build anytime and anywhere and have just to wait until the copy-process is done ;) -
@Stuffu if you mean our weekly builds. Then yes. You will be able to update.
-
@sirhenrythe5th True, I make backups as well but I have probably forgot half of what I have changed along the way. :)
-
@Stuffu LOL, same situation here. there is so much you optimize & tweak over the years… :)
But as BuZz has confirmed that you will be able to update to the "real" (official) release later you are ready to go - have fun! ;D -
@BuZz Thanks, that was exactly what I meant. I have been sitting on a Pi4 since December and I thought I would put it to work now.
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
