Cannot install Sonic Robo Blast 2, no matter what.

Hello,
I’ve been trying my best to install SRB2 on my Raspberry Pi 4, will absolutely no success. Please help me as I’ve tried everything, and have become frustrated.

1st installed Retropie on the Pi 4 using ETA Primes method and installed it using ports. (I know, at the time there wasn't an official Retropie release for the Pi4 so there’s bound to be some issues sooner or later). It installed, but it did NOT start.

2 Uninstalled ports version. I did the manual install from https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/9529/sonic-robo-blast-2/8 by herb_fargus. Same thing happened.

3 As it makes no difference to me if it’s in Retropie or not, I tried the Debian instructions on https://mb.srb2.org/showthread.php?t=43972. I added the ppa and everything, but SRB2 package was not found. I did apt-cache search SRB2 and SRB2-data showed up, but not the main package.

4 I tried the instructions from Omnija on https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/9529/sonic-robo-blast-2. His instructions are very vague and almost impossible to follow. For example, he said to download assets and add them to assets folder, but nowhere can I find any assets files on SRB2 website—even with a “site:srb2.org assets” or “sonic robo blast 2 assets files” google searches. Nothing. And this doesn’t make sense to me—why wouldn’t the git package for a complete program be deployed incomplete, without any of the needed assets for it available for download anywhere on the internet?
I continued anyway with this method, assuming that perhaps assets are optional, but when I got to the cmake and make part, it threw many errors.

5 At this point I turned to a tutorial on https://pimylifeup.com/srb2-server-raspberry-pi/ on how to install a SRB2 server. This tutorial makes no sense to me either. It says something about you will have to connect to it on your SRB2 client. Why would I install a game on cpu1, only to play it on cpu2? Why not just install it on cpu2? And how do I install both a SRB2 server and client on the raspberry pi? This tutorial did not end well either.

6 Finally I tried to install SRB2 on the official beta release for Rpi4 that came out TODAY. First I tried the precompiled, and it didn't start, so I uninstalled, updated the startup script and the kernel, and installed from source code. Still did not start.

I wrote all of that to say: Can someone please help me figure out how to install SRB2 on a Raspberry Pi 4?

Don't know if that'll help you, but... Can you try testing Doom Legacy on your RPi 4 with the latest RetroPie that was released today? The reason is simple: Sonic Robo Blast is a 3D sonic fan-game that was based directly on Doom Legacy, which is a Doom sourceport with split-screen support.

If Doom Legacy works, then probably the same should happen on SRB.

No, it won't. It's not the engine that's the problem.

@redalex Yes, looks like an update added an extra asset file that's not packaged by RetroPie. We'll need to fix this, thanks for reporting.

@redalex Update now the RetroPie-Setup script, then install/update from source the srb2 package, it should work now.
