      It actually works without quitting ES. Copy the theme folder from /etc/emulationstation/themes to /home/pi/.emulationstation/themes (the latter folder might not exist, just create it). You can then edit the theme where you copied - you should give it a different name (rename the theme folder).

          @mitu yea I tried that . How do I load the theme from that location . I must be doing something wrong

            @bigbellyman What's the name of the folder you created in $HOME/.emulationstation/themes with the new theme ? The name of the folder is used by EmulationStation as the theme name.

                @bigbellyman This looks ok - aren't you able to choose the theme from the EmulationStation list of themes ?

                  @mitu I cant choose it from list of themes . in the ui settings/theme set menu . nor is it available on es themes through option menu ? I must be doing something wrong

                    @bigbellyman Does your theme folder contains all the files from the original theme - including the theme.xml file ?

                          @bigbellyman worked like a dream . I approached it slightly different. Copied the theme I wanted to edit to my pc and edited it all there and then copied it over no problems.
