Controller used: Generic USB controller
Error messages received: Game driver not found
Emulator: Mame
Attachment of config files: (PLEASE USE PASTEBIN.COM FOR LARGE LOGS)
How to replicate the problem:When I try to run an arcade ROM the screen turns black and returns to the retropie menu. The verbose logs give me:
[libretro Error] [Mame 2003] Driver index counter: 4704. Game driver not found for nitd!
I have tried 5 different version of the ROM using the mame-mame4all, mame-libretro and arcade emulators - all with the same result.
Seems to be a software issue, I have searched the forums and Googled for several hours without a solution.
Any ideas?

Your ROM must match the emulator's supported ROMset collection, you cannot use random ROMs and hope they'll work.
Use the docs at https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Arcade/ and make sure your ROMset matches the emulator used. -
As we are talking about a NEOGEO-Game ("nitd" = Nightmare in the Dark; great game!) be also sure to use the right BIOS-File for this game.
Also highly recommended: use FBNeo für NEOGEO-Games, "Nightmare in the Dark" also offers achievements with this emulator since last week. -
Thanks for the replies - the ROM I am trying to run is Outrun.
By defauly I had been using the FB Alpha emulator, the mian ROM doesn't run in this particular emulator it seems. So I then tried just about every other flavour of this ROM in the other arcade emulators - which as reported didn't work. What I hadn't tried though was the main ROM in anything but FB Alpha. When I used the "arcade" (not sure which emulator this is) and selecting to use mame the ROM finally ran.
Thanks for the list of compatiable ROMS - should avoid such issues in the future.

@spacebiscuit there is no 'main rom' for MAME/arcade. 'outrun.zip' will have many variants with different contents with exactly the same name. outrun.zip from MAME 0.37b5 will not be the same as outrun.zip from MAME 0.220, for example. there will be a version of outrun.zip that runs in FBNeo - it is the one with the romset version listed here: https://retropie.org.uk/docs/FinalBurn-Neo/
there's no need to do trial and error and trying different MAME/FBA emulators, you simply download the romset collection for the emulator you are trying to use.
