What games are you playing during the quarantine?

@dankcushions Haha just came to say I'm stocked and ready to face Mother Brain again on the Switch. First run was 11 hrs and this one is 5. What a near-perfect game.
I also started playing Zero Mission on GBA just to see how it compared to Metroid (OG). Uhh 3 hours later..... ...

currently playing super metroid! never finished it before. quite far now, i think (wrecked ship part). i had to google how on earth you opened the pink doors :D
I love this game! It has a high replay value for me.
If you really enjoy this, I would recommend you check out the Metroid Prime series that started on the Gamecube. I thought the move to 3-D was done very well. I also like the way the series keeps many elements and weapons similar and just adds some new things. After you get familiar with one you don't feel lost in the future games. -
cheers both! i am loving the music (the whole game feels inspired by Alien). when the triumphant music comes in after you finally return to the surface for the first time in ages - great moment!
that said, last night i got to a wall jump sequence and it's THE most frustrating mechanic for me! it only triggers if you do a 'rolling' jump, and then the timing to get the jump seems really tight. this part has even got a bunch of enemies who stunlock you out of it at the top, so the 5% of times I get there, I get knocked down, GRR!! i will persist, though :)

@dankcushions its moments like those that make me appreciative of save states. There is a part of me that wants to beat it fair and square and another that just doesn't have the time for that. Especially in games that offer limited lives and no in game saving (grew up with a Sega Genesis, so pretty much all of those games 😂)
-
@quicksilver I was really surprised to discover my GBA and SNES emulators both save using the game's own save features. When I played on Windows emulators, I always had to go into the drop down menu and create a save state. Really neat.
-
I second checking out the Metroid Prime series, they're pretty awesome. The music for all of the Metroid games works really well. The GBA entries are a lot of fun too.
I don't think I could tolerate retro-gaming if not for save states. I really don't have the time to commit to individual games like that anymore and sometimes you just have to stop playing but don't want to use your place.
And to continue on the actual topic of the thread: I've been absolutely sucked back into Elder Scrolls Online (xbone, if anybody else plays, I'm fairly easy to find).
I need to actually sit down and start my Pi4 build so I get back into the retro stuff.

About to start the armored core series on the psx really going to enjoy the shared save slot to continue same character in all three games on the psx

I've been working my way through the TG-16 catalog. I've noticed that some of the games are WAY too easy. Cratermaze and Sunsoft's Batman for PCEngine were both so simple I actually finished each game in one sitting.

Sunsoft's Batman for PCEngine
That's probably my favorite Batman game. It's so different and quirky.

I'm going off the deep end. Since I have some electrical engineering ability, I'm taking a crack at Robot Odyssey, which is (arguably), the hardest computer game of all time. Some would say it is Wizardy IV. While I've played both in the past, I have solved neither.
In Robot Odyssey you ATTEMPT to solve diabolically hard puzzles, and if that wasn't bad enough, you have to do it by programming robots not with computer code, but by actually wiring them with logic gates and designing and burning PLAs (Programmable Logic Arrays). Another astonishing thing about this game is it was written in 1984 for 8 bit machines and was at LEAST 10 years ahead of its time.

@VictimRLSH Wow, that's indeed a very special game. I like programming games like Robo Rally (a board game), the more recent Human Resource Machine, or Minecraft for its Redstone circuits, I would very much like to try this one – if I only had anywhere near the time for another presumably very time-consuming game.
-
@Clyde LOVE Robo Rally! Unfortunately I was not able to get the Armed and Dangerous or Radioactive supplements before they went out of print, and in our set we got a duplicate map board so we are missing 2 maps. :(
-
@VictimRLSH Do you know Space Alert? In this board game, 1-5 players fly a spacecraft into unknown sectors of their galaxy and have to deal with various hazards cooperatively by determining and coordinating (!) their actions in real-time while the ship's computer (in form of a voice coming from an audio cd) announces mostly bad news constantly. After the real time planning phase, everyone carries out their actions step by step like they placed their cards downside before – the moment of truth. 😈
-
@Clyde Have not heard of that one before, I will have to check with my gaming group to see if someone has it.
-
Since I've never played it, I'm thinking about trying Parasite Eve 2. I enjoyed the first one, but I haven't played that one since it came out.

Fallout seems appropriate
Perfect first reply... still rolling.

I just finished Operencia: The Stolen Sun yesterday after playing it for approx. 2-3 months.
It's a "modern homage to classic first-person dungeon-crawlers" like Dungeon Master, Eye of the Beholder, or the late Legend of Grimlock, but with a turn-based combat system that's more reminiscent of titles like the original Bard's Tale trilogy.
Surprisingly, this is the first RPG of the hungarian development studio Zen Studios. They're mostly known for their Pinball simulation games. Nonetheless, they've created a breathtakingly beautiful, entertaining game whose more or less typical story is based on the hungarian folklore, which I was absolutely unfamiliar with, making it a refreshingly unique experience for a western european like me.
The Windows version of Operencia is on GOG sale right now with 60% off of both its versions (same game with or without goodies).
Thanks for the fabulous ride, Zen Studios!
