Save States
-
Hi,
Totally new to Retropie. On Monday I received my new Pi4 4GB and set-up RetroPie. Games seem to be working and I even fixed the issue with screen tearing. The problem I have now is I can't get Save States to work.
As far as I'm aware I have the latest version of RetroPie and Raspbian.
I'm using a wired Xbox One controller (via USB charging cable) and I've mapped the SELECT button to the Xbox One controller VIEW button, but it isn't working. In fact, I'm not even sure if the SELECT button is even working. What games use SELECT? I know the button works on my on my PC, and the button configuration screen recognises it when I assign the button to select.
Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The SELECT button is it's own button. The HOTKEY can be a different button. You may not have any games that use SELECT. What matters is that you have a mapped HOTKEY button. To save states it should be HOTKEY + R1.
The reason SELECT is commonly used as a HOTKEY is because some controllers don't have enough buttons to have both separated. What key did you map for the HOTKEY at the end of the controller configuration?

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. 😊
I mapped the HOTKEY to the Big Xbox button. It works when I press Hotkey and Start to close a game, I didn't think about it being used for save states. I'll give it another go and post back.
Cheers.

Yeah, the hotkey +R1 is working fine now. Silly me. I understand now. Thanks for your explanation though. Now for some retro gaming fun!
