NOOB Xbox controler question
-
Just want to verify I am an idiot. I have been try for days to get my xbox 360 wireless controller to work. It does have a usb cable but I am beginning to think that only charges, does not make it a usb controller. I would need one of the "usb radios" before it would work correct?
-
@Gramps you need a wireless receiver if it's a wireless controller. Plug and play cables do not work.

Thanks, yes, I tried 3.7 and xpad drivers also. I just wanted to verify I needed the "do-hickey" I have a Microsoft joystick that works "sorta". I need to see if I can figure out MAME ROM's and sound before I invest any more $$$ :)

So i have to buy a wirless recaiver to get my wirless controller to run?
It doesn't work with the intern Pi3 Bluetooth adapter? -
@Muffy it's not bluetooth, it's proprietary wireless by microsoft. see the wiki https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Setting-up-the-XBox360-controller

"Note that if you have wireless controllers you will need a wireless receiver plugged into your raspberry pi (Official Microsoft xbox360 receiver, or knock offs like zettaguard, VicTsing also work)"
Do i have to install a driver for the wirless receiver? Will i have problems with "no-name" receivers?
Has someone experience with a working receiver? -
You need a receiver similar to this: xbox wireless receiver
no driver needed for the receiver
plug in and connect controller to receiver like you would on an xbox... make sure you are using the xpad driver and not xboxdrv. ES will recognize controller once it is synced with the new receiver... setup controller in ES and play! (use link from mediamogul above as needed)
