RetroAchivements lockups - RetroPie 4.6 Raspberry Pi 3b
-
I also run 4.6 on a Raspberry 3B(+) and dont have any issues with cheevos at all.
Just updated to 1.8.6. yesterday - still working like a charm.
So this seems not to be a general issue/bug. -
@sirhenrythe5th You have not used it enough. It's there, it's real and it's an open github issue.

Which issue is it ?
-
know i have it only with super mario 1 nes. after defeating each bowser actually it locks up when hitting the bridge lever, needing a reboot. however it only happens with this particular game. also i have noticed with retroachievements on , sometimes with some emulators (nes/gb/snes/smd/pce) there comes a big black square on screen covering all the screen from the right till a few inches from the left , so only that part of the screen is visible. making gameplay impossible. what causes this i dont know, it seems to be reduced when online leaderboards is disabled, except not always. i will try updating to the newest retroarch later this week, maybe it ll fix this.
im on raspberry pi 3b btw. and the newest version of retropie 4.6 fresh install. -
@SingingCoyote13 I found it in another couple of roms too... Can't remember what they were. Definitely there though... Weird as you say as some work absolutely fine without crashing and freezing.
Noticed sonic goes glitchy on start up and need to reload it a lot.
I guess it's a new thing and will be fixed in time... What I would say on a positive is they've done a great job updating it as it was needed and it looks so much better 👍
-
yea the retroachievements function now looks similar to those on playstation 4 and xbox one. - it a neat piece of work !
-
For me it's been freezing when I get two achievements at the same time, or at least the second one while the first is still showing on screen. The first registers at RetroAchievements, the second does not.
It's somewhat console dependent, I'm having the problem with SNES and PSX, but not with GBA games.
-
Okay, now getting it on GBA as well. It's like clockwork, get an achievement while a previous one is still showing = freeze.
-
just like what you said i have it too.had a couple of months no real crashes or bugs - but now ! if i unlock more than one achievement(s) at the same time the game crashes. - actually the whole raspberry pi (3b) crashes - it locks up, so i need to unplug the power adaptor from the wall socket and plug it back in. seen this with arcade roms, and some console roms. the problem is it is persistant, and it happens quite often. this is also very bad for the microsd card inside the pi, so i switched to pc-based retropie-retroachievements gaming at this point, hope it will skip the pc. (linux Xubuntu 20.04 btw)
-
well, it didnt skip the pc. in fact all my systems now crash while i unlock one or more achievements mostly every time. i use linux Xubuntu 20.04 lts on my pc with the latest updated retropie, and on my pi 3b also retropie. so i tried batocera on the pi 3b - same issue. i m beginning to think its really NOT retropie causing this, and also not my internet (30mb/s). so i filed a issue at retroarch´s github for this
https://github.com/libretro/RetroArch/issues/10797
here´s the issue i just filed ;Description
since a couple of weeks i m plagued by a really odd bug, i can only come to think of it that retroarch is the culprit here. in the months before may this bug was not present as far
as i know of. - i ll explain
on my raspberry pi 3B i had retropie 4.6 installed (latest with latest updates) almost EVERY game (as far as i know of) has the problem that the computer crashes in a way you need to unplug the power, or hold the power button down to hard reset the device. this only happens when earning achievements, i get to see the badge and the description of the achievement - and the system will not respond anymore.
so having this issue on the pi, i switched to a regular PC with linux Xubuntu 20.04 lts and installed retropie on that machine, with the achievements enabled.
same issue. - then i thought - ¨its Retropie !". so i installed Batocera on the Pi3B, again the same problem. on all my systems after getting one or two simultaneous
achievements - the system freezes and crashes needing a power button reset.Steps to reproduce the bug
retroachievements enabled
run game in retroarch
reach achievement - game crash freezeBisect Results
before the corona crisis i used to game alot with retroachievements - no problem then
somewhere a month after march - like april or may this problem popped up

i think i found out what was causing the crashing while earning
retroachievements across different systems i have (pi3b/linux desktop/batocera) it seems that i needed to remove all images from the cheevos/badges folder. (why this happens i dont know) so i made a backup folder and moved everything from the cheevos/badges folder there.
now i dont have had a crash past 10 (i believe) achievements, where before nearly any achievement would let any of my systems hardcrash.for windows (i believe) this folder \retroarch\thumbnails\cheevos\badges
linux this one /home/<username>/.config/retroarch/thumbnails/cheevos/badges/
(guess this will also work for the raspberry)batocera this one smb://batocera.local/share/system/.config/retroarch/thumbnails/cheevos/badges/
(i found this method via one of the posts on the retroarch github)
-
well, i though wrong it is still crashing for me. i ve tried batocera, retropie on raspberry pi and on pc via linux.. nothing, but it seems i m getting less frequent hung-systems, since it triggers now 1 out of 20 achievements i get at random. i ve tried all i could, i ve not found the solution. more is at the github page
