My PS1 games won’t launch. I’m getting the „VolumeControl::Init() - Failed to find mixer elements” error. The odd thing is that I have many other systems on my Pi and all of them work correctly.

All my bios files are double checked and placed correctly, all game files are in the roms/ps1 folder - not in game respective folders.

      Pi: 4
Retropie version: the latest (I’m checking for updates every week or so)
USB devices: 2 (an external drive containing the roms, a keyboard/mouse dongle and gamepad wireless receiver.
Sound leaves the Pi via HDMI to a Smart TV and eventually a soundbar.

@gordonfreemanjr please give us a verbose log, as per https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first

@dankcushions Thanks. Weird - I do have the HDMI option available and the „mixer elements” problem happens only with lr-pcsx-rearmed.

@gordonfreemanjr The 'mixer' elements message from the linked topic is from EmulationStation, not from the emulator. If only PS1 games don't have sound, you may have saved a RetroArch configurations with incorrect sound settings. Did you use the 'Save configuration' menu in RetroArch's RGUI ?

@mitu I haved not touched the sound config at all. It happened after last night’s update. Again, sound works - it’s just PS1 games which just won’t launch at all, returning this error.

@gordonfreemanjr said in PS1 roms not working (VolumeControl error):

Then, as @dankcushions said, you should get an emulator log, with verbose debug enabled from the Runcommand launch menu. The log should be in /dev/shm/runcommand.log, post its contents (taken after launching a game), on pastebin.com.

@mitu I enabled the debugger and ran the rom, but apparrently the log was’t created. No files exist within the specified directory, and I tried both file manager and command line to make sure.

@gordonfreemanjr can you show us the command line input, and output you're using to check?

@dankcushions Case solved. The log obviously does generate and the roms do work. It was just a bit embarassing mix-up on my end regarding file formats.
