Is Turbo Outrun (arcade) playable on anything?
-
As per, really. I can't get it playable on anything.
MAME2003/PLUS: crashes with segmentation fault
MAME4ALL/ADVMAME: not supported
MAME2010/2015: runs but painfully slow
FBNEO: runs nicely at full speed, but for some utterly

reason accelerate is mapped to the 2 key on the keyboard, which is ridiculous, and FBNeo doesn't let you remap controls. (Holding down Start just gives you the arcade test menu.)It's not super-helpful that all the ROMset names changed between MAME versions either, but I've tried every combo I can think of. Anyone had any luck?

@SpudsMcToole please watch your language. You've also been here long enough to know to provide information about your system and log files.

All the logfile says is "segmentation fault", which I mentioned. Also, what you removed was a completely made-up word...

I do agree mame on libretro took a nose dive when menus where disabled when they told you a game doesnt work and if there was a working version you could use. I have no idea why libretro decided to remove these information screens.
Fbneo romsets change every time you update as there is no stable version at the moment. Again this will always be the case for libretro even if there was a stable version. You just need to audit your roms.
As far as controls go I think you can change them on fbneo through the controls on the quick menu screen. just be careful if you save globally when changing controls you could mess other games up so save them per game else youll be in a world of confusion.

@SpudsMcToole comprised of two swear words. Maybe come back in a couple of days

No, unlike most Retroarch emulators FBNeo doesn't have a Controls option there, or anything under Options.

Using multiple accounts to bypass a ban is not ok (user actually had 3 accounts!).
-
LOLZ. Luckily I solved the problem myself and was about to post the answer in case it was useful to anyone else, but congrats on your diligent po-faced tone-policing of a jokey made-up word like it was the 1950s rather than trying to help. Ban away. Seeya!

Wrong, you can remap controls in FBNeo, everything is in "Quick Menu > Controls" as it should be for libretro cores. FBNeo is not MAME, so it doesn't use the MAME osd for remapping.

He got banned so i guess it's a bit late, but advanceMAME being based on version 106 will support Turbo Outrun. as for MAME2003+ it would be possible via a
decrypted rom to hook up support for toutrun in the ole core, but our sega video code is not correct for this game so we'd be missing one of the road layers hence
although playable it would not look very pretty in places. -

Well, the information could help others with the same question. Insofar, thanks for sharing it. :)

A little under a year later and i got Turbo Out Run to work in MAME2003+ so i thought it worth a little post in this thread

@arcadez2003 Thats great. So do I just need to get the latest Mame 2003+ core for this?
