      @madalin

It mainly happens when things are moving fast on side scrollers. Sonic is another game that really suffers from the issue I am describing

@yman Please add more info about your system - https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.

You should get an emulator log (/dev/shm/runcommand.log) taken during running the game. Make sure you launch the game with debug logging from the runcommand launch menu, then run the game, reproduce the issue, exit and take the log file. Upload it to pastebin.com.

For what it's worth, I noticed this happening in Super Mario Bros. and Sonic 2 when I was testing the new KMS driver on the 5.4 kernel. I doubt it's relevant to OP's issue, but I figured I'd mention it just in case.

If anyone would be able to send a video maybe it could help make things clearer here.

And sharing your Retroarch.cfg file might shed some light into it as well.

Here is the Verbose log while getting the stuttering. I am no expert so hopefully this is what you were looking for. https://pastebin.com/6rJFgXQb

                    Power Supply used - Canakit
RetroPie Version Used - Buster 4.6.1
Built From - Weekly dev build 4.5.13 updated to 4.6.1

                    Controller used - 8bitdo SF30 pro

I too see stuttering graphics with certain systems although it only happens very briefly. It's strange because it'll happen with street fighter or other vs fighters on mame, but the same street fighter game with fba won't produce stuttering. I've been planning on recording some videos and making a topic to thoroughly convey the problem but haven't had the time.

The log seems incomplete. It seems you're running RetroArch 1.8.4, but the 4.6 image has been released with v1.8.5 - are you running the image from retropie.org.uk/download or another image ?

@Quackwalks You should create your own topic.

@yman Thanks. These files seem incomplete as @mitu stated.

                          We're looking for:

                          • /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg
                          • the log you sent, but after starting the emulator with "Launch with Verbose Logging" in the runcommand menu. So, when launching the game, press a key when the dialog shows to open the runcommand menu, and then select the option for "Launch with verbose logging". Then play the game for a while.

                          Thanks.

For videos, I use YouTube, I don't really have better recommendations, apologies.

[INFO] [Overrides] game-specific overrides found at /home/pi/.config/retroarch/config/Snes9x/Super Mario World (USA).cfg.

you should also show us that override

retroarch.cfg from where? this does not look complete/standard. you should show us the one in /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg and /opt/retropie/configs/snes/retroarch.cfg (as well as any core/game overrides being applied, such as the one i referred to above).

Issue on prebuilt and stock retropie image

be mindful that that we ONLY support the stock retropie image and it should be very obvious if you're running a third party image if i see the config files. please make sure you do your testing on the stock image.

@mitu I mistakenly took the wrong log. This one was from a non stock imagine. I am getting the same issues with the stock image. I will post this Log and everything else requested above as soon as I can. Thanks

@Quackwalks this is exactly what is happening with my setup. Any luck fixing it ?

@yman Check out my post. There's been debate on whether a setting called gsync really solves the problem or just appears to remedy it somehow. It's worked for me but I needed to make sure it's not enabled for n64 to have smooth game play.

Have you guys tried upgrading to the 5.4 kernel and then switching over to the vc4-kms-v3d (full KMS) driver in config.txt? I saw one mention of it here, but would be good with more data points to determine if it affects the issue at all.

@Brunnis I just tried this but my tv says it's an unsupported resolution.
