Hi, i have no sound with my new Pi4 over HDMI cable ( original white raspi cable )
      I am reading this topic : https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/24730/no-sound-in-rp4/12

      Now i have a few questions :

What are the settings in the start menu to set ?, they dont mention it in the other topic.
Where do i need to fill the command line ?, and why is it needed ?, is the menu broken ?

How do i use the closest to powersupply HDMI-port ?
I have black screen on that one, only the "secondary" furthest have image.

      thanks

I have the HDMI in the first port now, there is image only no sound.

If i go to the start menu, and set to HDMI and PCM, then if i go back the volume is set to 0, it toggles between 0 and 91 depending on the setting.

With 3,5 mm jack the sound works good.

@wild-snail Press F4 in Emulation Station and you'll land in RetroPie's command shell. Enter exit to return to Emulation Station.

                      Way to complicated this.
Do i have to enter this code every time ?
I only have a gamepad not a keyboard.
I need to find a usb keyboard that has a = character.

It looks like DOS with F4, i dont want to be here.

@wild-snail then retropie may not be for you. this kind of configuration is usual.

instead of buying a keyboard you could remotely connect to command line via a PC/laptop/etc using SSH - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/SSH/

Else i dont have to configure anything just play.

Most of the current sound problems are caused by a recent update of the underlying OS „Raspbian“. Maybe yours are, too. See here for comprehensive information and workarounds.

Thanks for the help, i appreaciate.

I went to my uncles house with this thing, connected it, played with settings, and all the sudden there was sound.
I was very happy, and went back to my house.
Then there was no sound back home.

Maybe my TV is to old ?, 10 years old, while my uncle has a new tv.
Can HDMI be not backward compatible ?

I go try buy another cable see if that works,
if that is true i wont ever buy anything original with a raspberry logo on it.

Sorry for the stressing, it is my TV.
Anyone know anything about this HDMI backward compatibility let me know.

                              thanks

@wild-snail said in Pi4 audio settings for HDMI:

I go try buy another cable see if that works,
if that is true i wont ever buy anything original with a raspberry logo on it.

Because of the cable? Nowadays, most "vendors" of simple parts like cables buy from the same few factories in asia who are making them in the first place, and put their own label on them. Thus, the quality the customer gets comes down to some QA and a big heap of randomness.

Shunning a certain vendor just because of one bad cable seems a little exaggeration to me, and may cut you off from an otherwise excellent hardware source, which in my experience the Raspberry Pi Foundation really is – just search for power-related Pi problems with non-original power supplies.

Just my two cents to maybe save you from a severely wrong decision. 🧐

That said, I'm looking forward to any update about the matter. I wish you success.

@wild-snail I don't understand what update you're waiting. If you read the post, it outlines what configurations need to be done - after Raspian's updates - so that audio works in EmulationStation. If you're using the 4.6 image, but you didn't update your system, then you will not be affected by those updates.

Does your TV or your sound system have other audio inputs? Then maybe the audio jack of the Pi could be an option? (This should be obvious, but sometimes we miss the forest for the trees.)

Yes i have my pc-speakers at the moment, only it is a mess with all the wires.
I really think it is some PCM problem, with samplerate or channels.
