The 'image' refers to the RetroPie installation - we can only support the installation images from retropie.org.uk/download, since we don't know how other installation are configured or put together.

We can offer support for what is included in RetroPie, when you're using the base image. We can't offer support for something we don't know.

You can install the base image from retropie.org.uk/download and we can help if you have issues. As for people who know more, sure, you can ask someone else.

@mitu I've been trying to tell you I am using the base image this entire time, don't need to reinstall it. I just want the n64 emulators I installed on it to run this one game. I don't understand what the problem is or how to tell someone what's wrong because I don't know. That's why I explained what's happening so if someone else is experiencing it and maybe figured out how to fix it, they might be able to tell me how to do so.

@mitu How is retropie a 3rd party image, I don't understand... I thought this forum was for issues with retropie.

@LavenderVix How can we know if you're using the base image if you haven't installed it yourself ? You said you don't know which RetroPie version you're using - so how can we know if you're using an outdated or problematic version ? This problems are usually spotted when you're offering the info asked in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.

@mitu And I apologized. It took me a bit to finally figure out what you meant I thought by "3rd party" you meant "not retropie" and by base image you meant "retropie without any emulators or roms installed" instead of "installed by someone else" and "not the latest version" perhaps telling me to make sure I was updated to the lastest version would have made more sense and make things go more smoothly. I'm sorry for this misunderstanding

You can't reinstall without loosing what you already have on the sd card. You can backup your image and your ROMs - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Updating-RetroPie/#backup-option-2 - and then transfer your ROMs back on the new installation.

No, you're missing the point a bit. There's no guarantee that what you have installed is a stock RetroPie image and it doesn't contain any other system modifications that we don't/cannot support. We can't play detectives here to find out if/what is changed and it's incompatible/badly configured.

EDIT: installation and configuration instructions (including videos) can be found in the Docs, there's a special section for first installations.

I am now running retropie 4.6 did a reinstall. That fixed nothing

@LavenderVix did you try other emulators when launching your game, we can help you with your settings, we will try to help you.

Check emulator your using.
Go into that emulators options and change video, and settings/video.
If video settings is not helping try to switch to next emulator.

Best emulators that will help is mupen64plus and mupen64plus-next.

Also make sure you update your retropie script and emulators(offical retropie)

@LavenderVix Can you show a screenshot of the issue ? You can take one from the RetroArch's menu, then you can find in \\retropie\configs\all\retroarch\screenshots. I briefly started the game with lr-mupen64lpus-next and it seems to run ok (slowdown in places), I don't see something similar to the black layer you're describing.

@mitu the core I'm using is lr-parallel-n64, but I will try to get a screenshot.

@LavenderVix parallel is not optimized for use on a raspberry pi. Use mupen64plus-next or mupen64plus-gliden64.
