JZINTV aspect ratio stretched (RPI4)
-
I'm using a Raspberry Pi 4 running the latest version of Buster and RetroPie 4.6. I've been using the JZINTV emulator on my RPI 3B for years. I have a Config file on the RPI3 that maintains the 4:3 aspect Ratio. However, it seems no matter what I've tried in the RPI4, JZINTV always stretches to Fullscreen. I launched EmulationStation from the Terminal while in using in Desktop mode. JZINTV displayed with the correct 4:3 aspect ratio, but was in a window. That made me believe my JZINTV Config file was okay. However, other emulators like Stella2014 and Nestopia would go Fullscreen, but still maintain the 4:3 ratio. I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this or may have a suggestion to try?

They run via RetroArch, which sets the correct video aspect and size.

Use the Runcommand launch menu and choose a 4:3 resolution ? Maybe the TV will not stretch the image.

Actually, that won't work, since
jzintv
is still a SDL1 program. Maybe we can try and include the latest version (released this month), which has SDL2 support and will probably work better on the Pi4. -
For jzintv, you edit the emulator.cfg file and you add in the desired resolution flag
opt>retropie>configs>intellivision

Thanks for the heads-up mitu. I assumed I was doing something wrong.
fdr4prez, I have been using the config file to set the resolution and it has worked fine on RPI3. However, I have tried doing the same on RPI4 and it will always stretch to full screen. Have you gotten it to maintain the 4:3 ratio on RPI4?

@dalves I do not have a Pi4, so I can't help much beyond this
I do know that jzintv has recently been updated to support SDL2, but I don't know if this would help and I am not sure how to get it installed for Retropie

Well, you could download the new SDL2 based version and replace the existing one. Since it's better to unpack the archive on the Linux system, you can run from the terminal
wget http://spatula-city.org/~im14u2c/intv/dl/jzintv-20200712-linux-rpi-sdl2.zip sudo mc /opt/retropie/emulators/jzintv
This will download the new version and open up MC with the location of the existing
jzintv
version on the left pane. On the right pane, browse for the.zip
file you downloaded and then just press Enter over the selected file, you'll see the contents of the archive and you'd be able to copy the newjzintv
binary over to the left.
