      @sleve_mcdichael

      I wasn't aware that was an option. On the "Please choose a package from below"; jzintv showed jzintv (Installed - via unknown). I selected Install from Source and it is now up and running. I have a few launch issues but I should be able to work those out. Thanks much for your help.

      @gpmcty hi. I originally posted your exact problem and I highly suggest following that thread which corrected it. Lolonios did an outstanding job of fixing the problem with his "version" of JzIntv.

      I hope at some point that becomes the download version, instead of having to apply this patch. JzIntv is not really supported anymore.

      according to some googling, I can use pkexec in place of sudo with chmod to fix the folder. What do you think?

      going off on tangents here, but: RetroPie -> Run Command Configuration -> set Joy2Key version to udev (instead of sdl) seems to have fixed the issue with the config menus not responding to controllers in the latest RetroPie update, although the pop up option to edit emulator configs no longer seems to show up during game loading
      PPPS: Re-enablng the launch menu from the same area will fix that last part.

      @mitu Thanks. Unfortunately, jstest gives me yet a third set of inputs different both from what event_diag and the other program told me. IT shows for my old fat PS3 controller:
      (Axes): X, Y, Z, Rx, Ry, Rz

      (Buttons): BtnA, BtnB, BtnX, BtnY, BtnL, BtnR, BtnL2, BtnR2, BtnSelect, BtnStart, BtnThumbL, BtnThumbR, null, null, null, null

      It's anyone's guess which of those axes the dpad uses, and how the hackfile would interpret it, since even the latest event_diag still shows nothing for anything except the analog sticks...

      I'm thinking event_diag just has trouble reading from these types of controllers, since it reads my arcade joystick and button sets, and my buffalo controller buttons, just fine.

      To clarify on backends.cfg: If it shows jzintv="dispmanx" the emulator call gets these environment variables passed in: SDL1_VIDEODRIVER=dispmanx SDL_DISPMANX_WIDTH=1600 SDL_DISPMANX_HEIGHT=1200 /opt/retropie/emulators/jzintv/bin/jzintv ... (but has no effect on the emulator), if it is absent or configured to SDL2 KMS in _Configurations/Tools _ (results in jzintv="default" in backends.cfg) no env variables are prefixed to the emulator call. So long story short: No need to explicitly set something in backends.cfg.

      On readline: You are right, if it is disabled in the build, a simplified implementation will be used. So I will leave libreadline-dev in the dependencies.

      Will file the two PRs shortly, will use $__archive_url.

      Thanks again.

      Found the issue - no "cfg" files in with the ROMs. Could have sworn I copied those into that directory before, but those files were missing. Adding those files did the trick and the games work great!

      @mitu said in xboxdrv dpad-as-axis: is it possible? (ps3 controller + intellivision):

      --displaysize=%XRES%x%YRES%

      Yes. So this needs to go, I think, after the -config option for those custom jzintv commands. It wasn't working for me until I did that. If all else fails, this version of the xboxdrv line worked for me:

      jzintv-xboxdrv = "sudo /opt/retropie/supplementary/xboxdrv/bin/xboxdrv --config /opt/retropie/configs/xboxdrv/intellivision.xboxdrv >>/dev/shm/runcommand.log & /opt/retropie/emulators/jzintv/bin/jzintv -p /home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS -q --displaysize=%XRES%x%YRES% --kbdhackfile=/opt/retropie/configs/intellivision/hackfile_trondd.cfg %ROM%; sudo killall >/dev/null xboxdrv"

      But you will need to update RetroPie from source for the PS3 buttons to show up in event_diag.
      Now if I could figure out why the config menus no longer work with controllers (I need my keyboard to use them)...
      For updaters: RetroPie -> Run Command Configuration -> set Joy2Key version to udev (instead of sdl) and then re-enabling the launch menu from the same set of options will fix this

      Finding the root folder in /etc is a nice festive surprise :-)

      Well, you could download the new SDL2 based version and replace the existing one. Since it's better to unpack the archive on the Linux system, you can run from the terminal

      wget http://spatula-city.org/~im14u2c/intv/dl/jzintv-20200712-linux-rpi-sdl2.zip sudo mc /opt/retropie/emulators/jzintv

      This will download the new version and open up MC with the location of the existing jzintv version on the left pane. On the right pane, browse for the .zip file you downloaded and then just press Enter over the selected file, you'll see the contents of the archive and you'd be able to copy the new jzintv binary over to the left.

      If there is no /opt/retropie/emulators/jzintv folder after installation, then it means the installation didn't complete correctly. Note that the install doesn't add a hackfile, so if your configuration included one, you'll have to add it manually.

      I was able to get jzintv installed and running. The only problem I have now is I can't get it to display with a 4:3 ratio. I have used the below configuration file on my Raspberry Pi 3 and it works great. If I launch Emulation Station from the Buster Desktop, then jzintv will display the correct 4:3 ratio in a window. However if I exit out of Buster and run Emulationstation by itself, jzintv will automatically stretch to fill the screen. I've tried making display adjustments in Retroarch, but it doesn't seem to affect it. Other emulators like Stella, Nestopia, and a few others, maintain the 4:3 ratio automatically. Just wondering if anyone else has seen this problem with jzintv or some other emulators?

      jzintv = "/opt/retropie/emulators/jzintv/bin/jzintv -p /home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS --gfx-palette=/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/intellivision/composite_colors.gfx -z1430x1070,8 -b10 -q -v1 -s0 --kbdhackfile=/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/intellivision/hackfile.cfg %ROM%"
      default = "jzintv"
