I've set up launch images for each console - however I've noticed that it only stays on for a second or two before turning to a black screen, then another few seconds until the game boots. Any way to have the launch image stay on screen right up until the game plays?

    Thanks.

For starters, you can change the time that the images are displayed via the Runcommand Setup entry in the Retropie section of Emulation Station.

But that won't get rid of the black screen between the image and the actual start of the game, because the image is displayed before the emulator starts, not while the emulator itself is loading.

A while ago, I tried to display the image until the game actually starts, but I ran into problems that let me stop this endeavour. You can read about it here.

If you don't shy away from some tinkering, see this project by @johnodon. It displays launching images until the game starts and lets you also have a bezel overlay that shows controls on first start or later on a button press while the game is paused/muted.

@Clyde thank you. It's strange, because when it's the stock grey box that pops up, that shows right until game loading and there is no black screen between them. I just assumed the image took the place of the grey box.

The settings you refer to, I've seen image delay but nothing on extending the time?

@theonematt the image is displayed with another program that needs to exit before we load the emulator. The grey box is left on the terminal during loading which is different.

That should be the delay of the emulator start, i.e. how long either the image is displayed. Did you try to change it?

Interesting, I was actually wondering about this myself recently. Is there a reason it's not possible to load in the background while the image is displayed?
