      Could any of you link a cheap 30 dollar ish controller for me as i am new to the retropie scene? thanks.

        Look at the 8bitdo SN30 Pro or SN30 Pro Plus. These are among the best controllers possible, IMHO. More variants are available here: https://www.8bitdo.com/

        Both will be available for around $35, I think

          Another option:
          Logitech F310. (Wired, no rumble, Playstation style layout) $20 USD.
          It may be wired but since it doesn't use 2.4GHz or Bluetooth, it just works well and is simple. Has a nice center button that is perfect for Hotkey use so you don't have to use the Select button.
