Inconsistent wifi Pi 4 / Scraper Stalling
-
Curious if anyone else with Pi 4 is having wireless problems. I just finished setting up a network share to roms, attempted to play a few games and it worked fine for that short amount of time. Decided to kick of a scraping and it failed about 10 minutes in with a network issue. I didn't reboot, I just started it again and it seemed to work for a little longer. Then it stopped all together and I couldn't get it to scrape for about 30 minutes. Now it's working again. This concerns me. I don't want to play a game for 30 minutes then have it stop. Do games get cached before playing?

While not caching, smaller games (arcade/cartridge based games) are loaded into memory once the emulator starts, but for CD based games (PS1/SegaCD/etc.), the emulator would still need access to the CD image during gameplay, just like a real console.
As for the Wi-Fi issues - please post more details about your setup, as detailed in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first, and maybe post the actual error you get while scraping.

I had issues with Pi4 wifi too. In my case I was noticing it when sending files over Samba from W10 or using FTP, and also scraping problems. I'd get constant disconnects and transfer speeds of around 200kb/s even when it would stay working.
I found mentions online of known issues where noise from the HDMI output can disrupt the wifi signal. Every instance I saw talked about said it was only over a certain resolution (1440 I think), but I decided to try disconnecting my 5" screen anyway, which runs 800x480, and as soon as I did that the speeds went up to around 3-5MB/s and the connection stays stable.
