Hatari / slow / F12

Hello,
I installed hatari emulator and a couple of nostalgia games. First, I may encounter some difficulties to press the F12 key and have the hatari settings window. The game freezes and the window appears but disappears. When I press the esc key, the game continues. I need always to perform F12/ESC/F12 to get the window. But, then when I change some parameter of just the disk, it takes sometimes 10/15 seconds before having the result... is this normal ?
