There are step by step guides

      eg

      https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/First-Installation

Playstation is installed by default as mentioned. You just need to copy your cd images to the psx folder (Taking note that you need a .cue file for every .bin file as mentioned in the documentation).

        @BuZz
Yes i will read up more because i see for ps1 the .bin now needs a .cue file, for the game to show up in the emulator. I'm just wondering if this is why i didn't see the PlayStation emulator because i only had .bin files so the ps1 emulator was not triggered to display.

anyway i will find the time somewhen to do some research and i will then have a better understanding of the system. i have so much on at the moment.
i was just hopping for a plug and play similar to 3.8.

for now i am going to format the sd card and put a fresh install of v4 ready to go for when i am more knowledgable or less ignorant lol, but hey i really do appreciate this help mate, i will get there in the end :)

@SimonF1 yeah it's cause you're missing a cue file. Bin was removed so there wouldn't be duplicate entries in emulationstation, keeps the lists cleaner and many need a cue to cue the sound files, so if you selected a bin instead of a cue you may not get all the sound files. There are guides online on how to generate cue sheets to go along with your bin, there are also cue sets you can just download but they fit under the category of roms so you're on your own in finding those.

I must say that i am in the same problem aa the creator of this thread.

When i do a clean install it online shows 13 games is availble but i cant enter anything else then the retropie settings.

I have tried to install All packeges and follow ton of guides and how to but it wont show Any games nor the preinstalled or the roms i am applying from usb.

Have Any of tried to make clean install from retropie homepage with image 4.0.2 and follow the guide and i just works with nothing else beside the guide?

@ktoft put some games on your system. the emulators are already installed. https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/First-Installation#transferring-roms

if you've put games on your system and they're not showing up, then they must be in the wrong place/format.

@SimonF1 you need to install it from the setup script. its called vice.

                    excellent thank you.
Never thought i would say it but v4 is beginning to look good.
could i not just expand all the emulators via "manage optional packages" so they are all up and running when needed or would that slow the pi down? the way i see it is the retropie will only load what it needs to run a game, So if i had a big long list of emulators to pick from would hopefully not slow the system down.

I believe the biggest slowdown you'd notice would be when you update your system, as it would then have to update all the emulators you both use and don't use.

You can also try the retroarch core option for enhanced resolution. May be too slow in some games though.

So, I'm also in the situation that none of the emulators I am interested in are available pre-installed.
However, I run a network-less zero. Is there a way to download a local cache of the repository for the setup script to install from? Can't seem to find any info on that in the wiki...

                              Thanx,
                              Lars

No - you will need to get a ethernet / wireless dongle for the initial setup (or set it up on a another raspberry pi)

Not even "hand loading" the sd-card (I'm on Linux, so I have full access to the sd-card partitions from my laptop)?

you could do it from an emulated arm chroot on linux, by mounting the sdcard and chrooting to it (using qemu).

@ktoft I belive there is an error in the string displayed on the retropie dashboard. Instead of maybe telling how many emulators that is installed it says "13 games available". But no games are available after a clean install with the 4.0 image. This puzzled me for a long while as well and led me to belive that there was something wrong with the navigation. Last time I installed retropie it was 3.. something.. and then there where a few games bundled.

Please fix so that it does not say "13 games available" after a clean install when there is infact no games available :).

@Warshi no. Really it means 13 retropie menu entries. I might hide this text on retropie menu in the future. But it's just cosmetic, and the install instructions explains what to do
