I am using a speaker connected through an amp to the I2S for sound (Pi 4).
sound works well except in retroarch games
    it give an echo/delay effect

i updated retroarch but it didn't solved it.
i tried to look for downgrade but didn't managed to find how to do it.
i know for the same hardware with the old retroarch it was working good.

Add a few more details about your system, as detailed in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.

Do you have any configuration in RetroArch specifically for the soundcard or does it use the system (default) audio configuration ? How did you configure the I2S audio on the Raspberry Pi ?

It seems to keep forgetting to detect if you have speakers or headphones hooked up in 4.7.1. I have to keep going back into RetroPie Setup to change the audio settings to headphones. I suspect that might be the same thing here.

          @mitu
          hi

configuration in RetroArch, audio device set to alsa

i configure the I2S according to the adafruit documentation:
          https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-max98357-i2s-class-d-mono-amp/raspberry-pi-usage
so just running this curl noted on this link

if it's matters i see a massage in the background when the system goes from
the GUI to the linux configurations:
          'ALSA lib pcm.c:8424:(snd_pcm_recover) underrun occurred'

i also tried to remove retroarch and install again
          didn't solved it

          Pi Model : 4
          Power Supply used: officel (3A)
          RetroPie Version Used : 4.6.8
Built From: Pre made Image, Wolfanoz Raspberry Pi 4 Supreme Pro
          Emulator: retroarch
          How to replicate the problem:
install Wolfanoz Raspberry Pi 4 Supreme Pro
configure and connect digital audio device
          run retroarch emulator
