Follow up from my last post...

So I cannot get the built in emulationstation scraper to work at all. I just keep getting "No Games Found" doing anything I try.

I then tried Selph's Scraper to which I get "too many requests" error using thegamesgb and "only open for registered users" for ScreenScraper.

      Fine.

      Same issue with using SkyScraper.

I went ahead and registered for ScreenScraper and even joined their Patreon to get additional threads and it seems to be working, except it won't actually scrape anything.

I get "no" for trying to get covers, screenshots, etc.

And then when I do the create gamelist, I get nothing.

      My command line is:

      Skyscraper -p snes -s screenscraper -u username:pass

I have even tried telling it my exact rom folder and media folder and still nothing.

Any help would be appreciated here as there doesn't seem to be any easy way right now to add box art to my build.

      Thank you.

@tpr i dont know about the ones built into RetroPie. i have moved away from those and started using ones that scrap from a computer.

not sure if using a computer is a option for you or not. but ARRM is really good, kinda overwhelming when you start but it can do a lot

        RPi3B+ / 200GB/ RetroPie v4.5.14, RPi4 Model B 4gb / 256gb / RetroPie 4.8.2
        RPi5 4gb / 512gb / RetroPie 4.8.9 -Basic
        Maintainer of RetroPie-Extra .

@exarkuniv I actually downloaded ARRM the other day, and like you said, it was overwhelming. Was not very user friendly, but maybe I should give it another try.

I messed around with it a bit and it just seemed that doing something basic like getting box art seemed to be a challenge, but maybe once you get the hang of it?

@tpr once you get the hang of it, its not bad.

skraper this one is more user friendly. so maybe give this one a look is you have not already. i have use it before. its good for just your basic system.

i needed ARRM for doing the Ports and PC games that i have on my system

Update: I upped my membership for Screenscraper to the $10 per month option and now things seem to be working better since that allows me more threads.

Honestly, I don't mind. If more people were supporting these outlets perhaps they would have less downtime?

It's not about downtime, but about capacity. When they're overloaded, scraping from non-registered members is not working. Similarly, TheGamesDB has limits on the number of scraping requests per user - they have a monthly quota.

@mitu Yes, that's kind of what I meant, sorry. And it appears that thegamesdb doesn't have an option for an upgraded service? I would pay for that as well...

It's kind of disappointing that Jools only has 83 members on that Patreon while Screenscraper has 5x that amount. I really hope RetroPie is getting more donations from other sources!

How about donating them something for the service they already provide to everyone? They may raise their general limits if enough people did that.

(Says so, goes over to Patreon to do just that, and learns that he already is a Patron of TheGamesDB, RetroPie, and Skyscraper since December 2019 … 😝 )
