    hi, i just updated my retropie and now it doesnt boot to emulationstation anymore.
    searching the net brought up the suggestion to type in emulationstation, but that just changes the command prompt? (the one with the raspberry picture) to a blank black screen with one empty command line.

      Please add more info about your system, as detailed in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.

      What's the message/text shown on the screen, after start-up ?

          Ok, so the screenshot is not from your system, but you have a similar situation, if I'm getting this right. Try to run the update again, by typing:

          cd RetroPie-Setup
          sudo ./retropie_setup.sh

          After the update, exit the setup and try to run emulationstation from the command line. Post any messages you receive.

              EmulatioStation has a log file in $HOME/.emulationstation/es_log.txt, which can also be accessed via file shares at \\retropie\configs\all\emulationstation\es_log.txt. Can you take a look at it to see if any errors are logged there ?

                  It looks like the current theme used by EmulationStation has some corrupt images.
                  Revert to the default ('carbon') theme by editing the es_settings.cfg (it's in the same folder as the log file) and change the line:

                  <string name="ThemeSet" value="retrogamenews" />

                  to

                  <string name="ThemeSet" value="carbon" />

                  See if you get EmulationStation to start.

                  If you're low on disc space, don't delete EmulationStation's files, delete some ROM files.

                    it was
                    <string name="ThemeSet" value="art_book" />
                    and i changed it to
                    <string name="ThemeSet" value="carbon" />
                    but it didnt work though.

                    I thought i only deleted themes that i previously downloaded through the ES Theme manager in Retropie.

                      @adarkar said in Emulationstation doesnt start:

                      <string name="ThemeSet" value="art_book" />

                      That's strange, the log file you posted shows some other theme. How much free space do you have ? It should be printed over the command line prompt.
