8bitdo controller not working at all in specific PS1 game
-
Hello. I am trying to play RE3 for PS1 on my retropie 4.0. The controller does not work at all in game. Ie button presses are not recognized in the game menu. It works for other games for PS1 and other emulated systems.
Pi model : 4
8bitdo sn30+, with newest firmware (4.2?)
retropie version: 4.7.1
Image: Wolfanoz 256gbFor all these questions i am keeping the controller wired, bluetooth works fine but id rather keep it to one problem for now.
I have tried pretty much everything i can find in the forums in terms of controller settings both from the quick menu (things like setting to dualshock, analog, left analog, and in retroarch ( retropad, retropad with analog), in essentially all permutations and nothing will make it recognize the controller. I cannot click start new game no matter what i do. I have a feeling i need to go into some cfgs and change something as nothing that i can change "in menu" seems to help. I know there is plenty on this forum about the idiosyncracies of the psx wrt to the digital vs analog inputs. I have tried to attempt everything I have seen in the forums but perhaps I have missed something fundamental. If there is some setting or screenshot that will help you all evaluate I would love to share it.A second problem is I have a 2nd sn30+ controller. It is recognized in the emulationstation menu as existing (i.e. if i hit start with my first controller and go to configure input it recognizes 2 controllers), but no button presses do anything. jstest on js0 works fine (i.e. controller 1) but on js1 no button presses do anything. This problem is secondary to the one in the first paragraph. Id rather get one controller working fully first.
Thank you for any and all help. The community is great, please let me know what other information you need, happy to provide it.

@denalitastic have you tried switching "multitap" off? i had a similar issue and this worked.. go to core options (retroarch quickmenu -> options) and enable "show other controller options" (something like that).. quit and restart.. after that there should be some new options and two of them are for disabling multitap1 and multitap2.. set them both to "off".. for me this brought my controller back to the emulation.

@yelworc Haha thank you sir. This worked like a charm. To all future people you have to enable show other controller options then restart system from emulation station. Then go back to the quick menu options then turn off the multitaps then again restart the system from emulation station.
Thank you so much @yelworC

@yelworc I spent days on this , lol I am so thankful. Since you are such a genius when it comes to these things any idea on the two controller problem?

Actually, you only have to resume the game after setting Show Other Controller Options, and then invoke the menu again to see the Multitap options. These need a restart to be applied, however.
Just mentioned for others with the same problem. Thanks to @yelworC for this solution from me too!

@clyde Thank you sir.

@Clyde Thank you that is good to know.
I have moved my question about the 2nd controller to a new thread so as not to contaminate and confuse there. thank you all.
