      Hi,

      I have a trouble about the PSX emulator in Retropie. The button start of the PSX emulator (PCXE-Rearmed i think) doesn't work and I can't startup some games like Metal Gear Solid. The button work on others emulators. Can you help me to solve it?

      Thanks

        Please add some info about your system, as detailed in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.

        Are you running the standalone emulator or the libretro core ?

          @kitsune i guess this is the same problem i recently had. try disabling "multitap".. start a game, access retroarch settings (select and run in most castes) and go to "options"... enable "show other input settings".. exit the game and start again.. go back to options and there should be some now settings available.. two of them are "multitap 1" and "multitap 2".. set them both to off and restart again.. this fixed it for me

            @yelworc Many thanks! I had the same problem and tried so many other options to no avail.

            Some little corrections to your instructions:

            • The RetroArch menu is accessed with Hotkey + X by default, whereas most people set Hotkey to Select, so it should be Select + X on most setups.
            • You don't have to restart the game after enabling Show Other Input Settings, it is sufficient to resume the game and re-enter the menu to see the additional options.
            • After disabling both Multitaps, the Start buttons worked as they should, though I also had to save a Core Override (in Quick Menu > Overrides) to make the changes last.

            Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!

            @mitu Should this maybe be made the default in RetroPie? It seems a rather strange thing that the current standard settings Multitap 1 + 2 = Auto prevent the Start button from working, while Show Other Input Settings = Off hides those options simultanously from the player.

              @clyde By default, Multitap options are disabled and the the Show Other Input Settings is Off. At some point multitap was set to auto,, but right now it's not, I guess users that updated at some point got the default (at the time) which broke input, but right now, starting the core for the first time, the multitap options are disabled.

                @mitu You're right! (of course) Even though I checked the config files /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg and /opt/retropie/configs/psx/retroarch.cfg when I struggled with this problem, there where these options "hiding" in /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-core-options.cfg:

                pcsx_rearmed_multitap1 = "auto"
                pcsx_rearmed_multitap2 = "auto"

                I now temporarily renamed that file and it got re-created with both options turned off when I started a playstation game. Thanks for clarifying this.

                Sometimes, RetroArchs concept of many config files at different places can be very irritating … 🤨

                  Core options have always been stored as a separate file. Newer version will - by default - have one-file per-core, located in separate folders - for even more fun and games when trying to find a faulty core option...

                        Thanks guys! This worked for me as well.
                        I don't update regularly, but once I did, I found same issue with my Multitap settings set to "auto", leaving my Castlevania Symphony of the Night quest on hold till I figured it out :)
