@agtrigormortis I've heard of Windows based emulators that can use your computer clock, like Visualboy Advance, but I couldn't say for sure on RetroPie if they can. Maybe someone else can verify.

@badfurday I wouldn't be surprised to find out that it does, I mean Nintendo/Game Freak managed it on the 3DS on Virtual Console so I'm pretty sure fans who are knowledgeable on programming would find a way.

the battery system on the cartridge functions exactly like the CMOS battery on PC motherboards, it retains some information about your computer, including your BIOS settings. Similarly Pokemon stored in-game progress as well as time and date. Flash memory is good at storing some data, but one thing it can't do is allow the device to keep track of what time and day it is, only volatile memory can do this because the information isn't frozen.

Doesn't seem to apply, and no i'm not going to watch the whole thing, i did look at all the sources he listed below the vid. it's not relevant.
Anyways this thread has been hijacked enough, i don't care what people do, just don't go around spreading bad info.

            Here's a definitive solution:

Right now I'm on a 4-way-joystick-arcade kick. I love these classic "easy to play, hard to master" arcade games:

                • Mr. Do! - single screen maze-like game
                • Spatter - maze-like game with a jumping tricycle
                • Frogger - really? You don't know the original Frogger?
                • Go Go Mile Smile - single screen maze-like collecting game with a twist
                • Q*bert - it's a fun game, although the 45-degree-joystick-rotation is annoying

Honorable mention: Lode Runner - single screen collecting game

I love the simple controls and the feeling of absolute control over the gameplay. If you die, it's your fault. There is seemingly no "random-ness" to these titles.

@iandaemon Nice! Are you using an actual 4-way-stick, or what's your approach?

                    @pjft I'm using a physical restrictor plate. It's not fool-proof, but it's close.

The above are all on my 4-way-joystick custom cocktail cabinet. On my upright cabinet it'd be a totally different list:

                    • Golden Tee 2K - trackball arcade golf game
                    • Centipede - classic trackball single screen shooter
                    • Cloak & Dagger - single screen twin stick shooter (similar to Robotron)
                    • DoDonPachi DaiOuJou - lovely danmaku/shmup
                    • Ketsui - cool danmaku/shmup

                      My favorite games are:

                      Super PacMan

                      Jr. PacMan

                      Ms. PacMan

                      PacMan Plus

All played with a real Midway 4 way leaf that I have converted to USB into the Pi.

@videoarcade We are lucky Pacman and Ms Pacman got official rereleases on consoles on Namco Museum considering. There are still some Sega arcade and Dreamcast games that never got a rerelease on Ages Collection despite the fact they made it on their official survey.

@videoarcade Well, in case you missed it, apparently last year Namco launched a NES version of Pac-man Championship Edition, and it's awesome!

@videoarcade The two-player-simultaneous Pac-Man Arrangement is my favorite. (arcade version, not GBA version)

@iandaemon Part of the Namco Museum Collection Vol. 2, if I recall correctly - playable on AdvMame or MAME2010 on the Pi3 and Pi4. Great game!

@pjft Yes! I think its great... I bought it for the xbox360 and play both.... I would love a clean port over to play in my arcade cabinet. PacMan has been the major reason I have spent $$$$$$ fixing my arcade machine I bought new 11/27/2020. Came with a clicky 8 way....

PacMan CE's are great. It would be great to see them put some time and effort in designing a new Pacman.

My dream game would be "PacMan Construction Set"

Add your own Pac Family character (JR/Super/Ms/Pac/Etc...)

Construct your own maze and save a buildable.

My kid has this for Mario on the Switch.....

I have the basement painted with PacMan... It's been quite the experience since I am stuck home with kids doing remote schooling since they won't open the school...

@videoarcade Well, from what I read at the time, the version released on "Namcot Collection" (this NES demake) actually has a NES ROM file packed there - or, at least, the word out there is that the game is indeed able to be run on an NES:

                                  https://tcrf.net/Pac-Man_Championship_Edition_(NES)

I imagine that if it runs on a NES, it'll run on one of RetroPie's emulators.

Love that game unfortunately the psp emulator causes graphical glitches, and a crash on a paticular route. it's not a pi issue though, it does the same on pc.
                                        I play the PS2 version on my PS3 .

@crush On the PS3 I have it on PSN, at least up until a few years ago there was a proper PS3 version as well, that has probably been delisted by now.

                                            well

I have that too, but the ps2 version is better, despite the lower resolution, the PS3 version is but a shell of the full game.
