    I'm trying to get my setup for MAME to save the state of the game after it finishes its POST process and then have that state auto-load each time.

    The first problem is that when I invoke the Save State function it just pops up a message with a little hourglass on it that stays there and never finishes.

    Thanks.

      Please provide more info about your setup, as detailed in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.

        also note https://retropie.org.uk/docs/lr-mame2003/#save-states (the same may be true for many arcade emulators)

          @mitu I have a Pi 4 (8GB) using the CanaKit setup (including their supply) that runs great on my home projector. RetroPie is running v4.7.1.

          It's hooked up to a MayFlash F500 (also working great) and well as a Logitech BT keyboard.

          IMPORTANT: I'm generally running MAME with the 2016 core as our ROM set doesn't seem to like the 2003 core, if that makes a difference (sorry, not an expert on MAME).

          Sorry about the lack of info in the original post. Thanks.

            @agrajag a given romset version works on a specific version of mame. rather than start from what romset version you have, you should acquire one for the arcade emulator you want to use. for example, lr-mame2016 is not widely used and likely has issues. see https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Arcade/

            that said, i am not sure you will have much luck with lr-mames for save states. if lr-fbneo supports this game (from the appropriate romset), then you may get better results saving and loading states. once you have that working, automatic saving and loading of save states can be turned on - see https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/25086/possible-to-load-direct-a-save-state-and-play-mame

              @dankcushions Perfect. Thanks!

              My setup is complicated by my son having a specific ROM set and my using a share to connect to those. It sounds like I might be better off just using MAME2003 core and finding the ROMS for those versions and keeping them all on the SD card of my Pi 4.
