@mahoneyt944 the gun calibration fails on the cmos check and I can't get the aimtrack guns to recognize that game. Even going into the retroarch settings for Revolution X (arcade) I don't have a light gun option under inputs.

      You probably aren't using mame2003-plus ?

      FWIW, FBNeo also auto-calibrate revx.

@barbudreadmon I sure am. I get "Cmos Ram Error. Unable to read gun calibration values" when using Mame2003-plus. If I select FBNeo, it just puts me back at the retroarch menu. It doesn't load. The other problem is when it wants to calibrate the guns, it's looking for guns 3 and 4 and I can't get past that because I only have two.

Did you try updating from sources ? Maybe the version you are using is old and the auto-calibrate came later ?

It will always happen when you don't use the romset(s) matching your emulator(s). Also, you might need to update FBNeo from sources first since the game was added only recently.

Check your emulator commit version. Launch the game then open the retroarch menu (Select + x).... This will be displayed at the bottom of the menu. Sounds like you may have mixed romsets / emulators to get wonky results.

Take some photos or videos. That may help diagnose.

@mahoneyt944 I updated Mame2003 from source to get the most current version. Inside of Revolution X during the rom test, it says it's version A-16744-40019. When it gets to the calibration, it's Revolution X Revision 1.0 - 6/16/94. I can't get past trying to calibrate Gun 3 since I only have the two. Maybe I just need a 2-player version of the rom? The sites I go to only seem to have this version.

              On the bottom left it's 1.8.5 - MAME 2003 - Plus (0134c42)

Not sure what you are doing wrong when updating from sources, but this version is 13 months old.

From what i can tell, auto-calibrate was added in this commit 7 months ago.

Edit: maybe that's the problem ? mame2003 and mame2003-plus are 2 different cores.

Mame2003 and mame2003-plus both have the calibration now. So if you did update either "from source", you'd have the update. Mame2003 in under "main packages" and mame2003-plus is under "experimental packages" or "optional packages" depending on your retropie version.

Once it's updated properly. You'll have to delete the revx.nv file located in the save directory (where the rom was launched from -> mame2003-plus-> NV-> revx.nv). This is the file that contains the calibration. It will auto generate a new one after the update at launch.

@mahoneyt944 @barbudreadmon THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU BOTH!!! That did it. You were right, I only updated 2003 not 2003 plus. Now I'm running MAME 2003-Plus (71a461c) and it works perfectly! So again, many many thanks to both of you. Made my day.

I have to ask though, should I be updating ALL of my emulators from source to keep them current? I don't want to risk "breaking" any.

                      @drdave79

well that's really up to your personal use. Most times "from binary" is enough. If you only play a few games in a particular core and they all work fine, I wouldn't update as frequently.

It helps to know what the updates are exactly too... Are they games or features you use for example? From source gives you the very latest and most times will be the best version to use but it may not make sense to do this constantly because of the long install times.

I would consider your use of each emulator and determine how up to date is necessary for you. I typically update the majority of the emulators from binary and then cherry pick the ones I want from source.

@drdave79 also, be aware that when updating mame2003-plus or FBNeo, supported romsets can sometime change (it shouldn't be a problem with the other arcade emulators). Romsets must always match arcade emulator+version (that's why you failed launching your revx romset in FBNeo).

@barbudreadmon @mahoneyt944 Sage advice from both. Thank you again for taking the time to help!
