Okay, so I changed the setup to allow my pcengine and megadrive to be shown as tg16 and genesis. That's working well. The one problem is that they still display in themes under "P" and "M" due to their original names.

I know I can create an entirely new platform with those names and that would like solve this, but that strikes me as potentially risky as I have no clue what other dependencies might be tied to them being related to their "parents" and cutting that off. So, can these be sorted properly without neutering their relationships?

For example, can I change the name of the theme without breaking it, but thus sorting properly?

I believe you can open the /etc/emulationstation/es_systems.cfg file and change the order they are listed to change how they appear in the menu.

@yfzdude Wow. Never would I have thought the order they appear in would determine the order they .... appear in. It's such common sense that it's nearly hidden.

@agrajag if you are going to customize the es_systems.cfg it's recommended to make a copy of it and place it here /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation the reason is that anytime you update, the default config will be overwritten and restored to default.

@quicksilver Thanks. Remembering that step is always a challenge.

@yfzdude Just to make it official, this hint worked flawlessly.

In fact, it created a new mental challenge -- how to sort platform names. Hehehe.

For example, do you sort "Atari 2600" under "A" or "2600"? Okay, so you say, "Of course it's 'A' because, the system is the 'Atari 2600' and there's the 'Atari 400', 'Atari 800', etc."

Okay, but Is it the same for the Lynx and the Jaguar? But then where does the Dreamcast go? It's officially the Sega Dreamcast, but art always shows it as plain old Dreamcast. And would you really say, "NEC TurboGrafx 16"?

Ah, the stresses of a first-world existence.

@agrajag I do alphabetical order sorted by brand first (atari, nintendo, sega, sony, etc.) Then within each brand I sort each system by release date. So for sega for example I have Master System, Genesis, Saturn, Dreamcast. Curious how others do it though too.

@quicksilver I think I'd be doing exactly what you do except for the fact that the Dreamcast logo in my theme doesn't mention Sega, for example. That would help for making it look right when guests try this out.

@agrajag if you know a little bit about photoshop it's usually fairly easy to modify themes by swapping out the .svg (or .jpg) with one that you prefer.

@quicksilver I can do VERY minor graphic changes. I'll have to take a look at where that's at and see about changing it.
