Daphne Dragon's Lair Enhancement Tutorial?
-
@jamrom2 Oh, and do you mean sirdrak has a download somewhere that's beyond the one emulinks post with the DL, DL2 and SA HD files in it?
-
@agrajag no, I meant that massive download. Mine had a ton of roms, pics, and videos.
-
@jamrom2 believe it or not, that set of files did actually help decipher what was happening as I could see things in a wider context. It also let me see all the rom files and let me see how the whole command line and command files work as I could run the PC version (which he includes) and use its advanced feature to see what the command line (and thus commands file) should look like with varied settings.
-
@agrajag I tried to read this on my phone last night and didn't understand it.. but I do know.
This a a strange thing the Pi does with port assignments. I had recently gone through this as well with my setup. If you have something plugged it in one port, it shifts the other port assignments around.
I had this issue with my Intellivision setup because I use an Ultimate INTV to PC controller for my build. Once I plugged in one of the Intellivsion controllers, it would bump the controller assignments around.
I tried using that Retropie script that hard assigns ports to controllers, but it didn't help. I just played around with the ports until I got a happy medium.
BTW... the only way to play Intellivision games is with an original controller. You can play a decent handful of games without it, but it's not the same.
-
@jamrom2 Shifting topics so I'm going to bring you into another topic I started on this subject about a week ago that got no response.
-
Do you get troublesome start-up of Space Ace? When I start it I mainly end up looking at black screens until I just randomly put in coins and hit start.
I also wonder about both SA and DL in that the coin sounds rarely work which has me wondering if I have the right settings for the commands file or am missing something or if this is just the way it's emulated.
Currently I have Dragon's Lair running along with it's two enhanced versions (1.1 and 2.1), Dragon's Lair 2, Space Ace and it's enhanced version (SAE) and just got Cliff Hanger going last night (pretty interesting).
-
Turns out I'm so used to -fastboot that I didn't realize Space Ace was just taking forever (with a blank screen) to boot up. It's fine and looks great. Now I just wish I didn't suck rocks at it.
Now I'm curious if there are any other "must-have" titles to go after or if they're all just shadows of the big names.
-
@agrajag I don't use the fastboot option. Although I'm sure it's good in that it's quicker, but I just rather see the machine go through it's "normal" process and mimic what it would normally do.
Space Ace boots fine, then plays a quarter of the attract video, then starts it over again where it's stable. There are issues with the conversion into HD. I didn't try the 1080p as I can't run it, but you can notice this in the 720p. Right as Wendy swings in and Ace catches her, it stutters. Then the sound is a little off from the video. It's been reported, but everyone seems to think it was just part of the rendering when it was converted.
When I have time in the near future, I'll load these into my MAME cabinets and see how they run. I can't used them on my Pi3 builds.
-
@jamrom2 Yeah, you've got a real cabinet setup. In my case it'd just be family and friends coming over and explaining patience would be an issue. heheh
-
@agrajag So I tried the 1080 4:3 Dragon's Lair videos... the guy did an amazing job on them, and if I had a more powerful PC in my cabinets I would consider using them. But, I get the same as you "parsing", and for me, that's a killer.
Also.. as good as they do look, I didn't like it. It was too sharp, didn't look cartoony anymore. Certainly not knocking the work and quality. Wow, did he really enhance the video, but to my eye... it's too detailed. Need some dithering or a little gausian blur
I'm sticking with the 720 HD conversion files. Those look very good and no issues running them on my PC or my Pi3b+
-
@jamrom2 Well for the sake of full testing, delete all your .dat files. That fixed the parsing issue. Let Daphne just recreate them.
