Hello everyone, I'm pretty new to all of this and my brother helped get me set up. Everything seems to be working on his and he's not sure what kind of updates he did to get his hi res emulator to work. He swears that it was nothing more than I did. Essentially, I can boot N64 roms with mupen64plus-next, but not the hi res. When I try the hires emulator, it just brings me back to my rom select screen.

I tried sudo apt update, sudo apt full-upgrade, I updated all my core packages, optional packages, script, and basically anything else I could find to update. Below are my system details.

Pi Model or other hardware: raspberry 4 model B
Power Supply used: the battery provided by the manufacturer
RetroPie Version Used :retropie buster 4.6
Built From: downloaded from retropie website ( retropie-buster-4.6-rpi4.img)
USB Devices connected: X box one controller (2015) Logitech keyboard
Controller used: X box One (2015) via usb
      Error messages received:none

We followed just about the same process sicne he walked me through everything step by step, but I just can't get the hi res emulator to launch any game. Also, if it makes a difference, we tried net play and it works fine on every game we tried except the Simpsons for arcade. The error message we get is that a user is using a different core. However, our versions for the emulator and everything else we checked seems to be exactly the same. We are unsure what the issue is, but perhaps he has something I don't.

I hope I gave enough info, but as I said i'm new, so happy to follow any additional troubleshooting steps for more clarity.

      Thank you.

I'm having the same issue. I tried changing the driver in retroarch from gl to glcore and I get the same results.
lr-mupen64plus works just fine, but lr-mupen64plus-next always boots back to the menu whenever i launch a rom.

@TONX it's not the same issue. The op had mupen64plus-next working but not the standalone emulator. Likely because his ROMs were zipped. You should open a new topic.

@mgrekt18 Did you ever find a solution to this? I'm having the same problem.
