Power off fan
-
I am building a new case in the shell of a non functioning psone and had a question about the best method to shut off the fan upon shutdown. I am using @cyperghost generic safe shutdown script.
What is the best way to kill the fan when I use the safe shutdown button?

@cnoto which power device do you want to use? Mausberry or the ONOFFSHIM?
If the fan still consumes power then you did not perform a complete power cut. -
@cyperghost Thanks for the quick response. I welcome your advice in terms of which is best. I have a safe shutdown button and power light on the ready. Can I connect my button to one of those two options? I believe your script (which I enjoy and have used many times before) has options for those both.

@cnoto yes it has but for the Pi4 you might need a special setup for the config.txt located in boot partition.

@cyperghost got it. Thanks. Its a pi3 so should be good. Going to go with the onoffshim and a momentary button.
-
@cyperghost can you share the pin layout that would work best for using your shutdown script with an on/off shim? Im not sure how to leverage the shim, fan and on/off light. Thanks.

@cnoto For the ONOFFSHIM I used the default setup, proposed by Pimoroni. For the complete powercut you either need a systemd file or you set a dtoverlay to /boot/config.txt
