Steering wheels with Raspberry PI/Hyperpie
-
Hi All, running a Hyperpie build on Raspberry Pi 3b+. My son wants to know if we can add steering wheels via USB for games like pole position, super sprint, etc.. Is that possible? If so which equipment is needed, how would I program the controls.
Thanks..

You won't be able to play games like Pole Position, or similar like Road Blasters etc... because the original arcade machine's wheel was a endless rotation wheel, whereas most PC/Console Wheels are 270/360 degree wheels. You can play games like Outrun, ChaseHQ, etc.. I think they're 270 degree wheels. For Pole Position, you would need a spinner, or a modified ball mouse - modded into a cheap wheel.
I use my Logitech Driving Force GT in MAME, and it works as long as I restrict it to around 270 degrees in it's software, standard degrees is 900 - much more suited to modern PC driving games. I then have to tweak MAME, per game, for my wheel. The biggest problem is nearly always mapping the gas and brake pedals, mostly so they're not automatically "on" - sometimes I have to invert the pedal controls.
I plan on testing this Logitech wheel on my Pi in MAME, but haven't found room to setup the wheel, yet - I have my Pi connected to a rather large 28" Sony CRT, which takes up a massive footprint on my desk. -
Hello, I would like to ask you a question, if you are so kind to help me, I have a Logitech driving force pro steering wheel, is it valid for Raspberry PI ?, I can't get it to work as it needs the Debian drivers in Linux to recognize the route of the strap. Are there such drivers? If so, where can I get them? Thank you.

I do play Pole Position fine with my wheel, which is a quite cheap and primitive DataFrog model.

@doomjedi would you mind sharing the model of your wheel? Any special setup required? TY!

Does anybody know if a Xbox 360 wheel with wireless receiver will work with retropie?
