You'll have to compile and make sure the new emulator works with Raspberry Pi OS, then you can add a new system for it.

RetroArch version and its cores are usually not dependant on a certain version, but in this case the Potator core does indeed need a higher version of RetroArch. I don't see a pre-compiled version for the core on the libretro buildbot, so you'll probably have to compile one yourself. If you wish to upgrade the RetroArch version, then you'll have to wait until 1.9.3 will be added (probably not so far) or compile it yourself (there's a PR for it here).

That being said, if you intend to develop new RetroAchievements, are you sure RetroArch is the application to use ? I mean you can test the achievements with it, but to develop you may find it easier to use an emulator that can snapshot and compare memory between frames, such as the ones provided by the RetroAchievements project.

@mitu I am toying with the idea of installing RetroArch nightly within the Pixel Desktop. Then I could access the Desktop from the Ports menu of my RetroPie install and run just the nightly RetroArch from within the Pixel Desktop. I'm wondering if it would install side-by-side if I do the install through the Desktop or if it would overwrite my existing RetroArch install for RetroPie 4.7.1? I'm not doing Retro Achievement development at the moment, I'm just playing the games.

As I said, I'm don't think that there's a Potator core pre-built for the Pi (or even a RetroArch binary ? ) so you'd have to build/compile it yourself.

As for overlapping with the version installed by RetroPie - that shouldn't happen, but some of the configuration files might get mixed up, so I wouldn't recommend it. You could try Lakka - a similar SBC distro that's built around RetroArch - which should get you the latest RetroArch version, but I don't think they include - yet - the Potator core.

@kcoconnor76 Supervision works through lr-mess, not sure if it supports Retroachievements though.

afaik, no mame core has retroachievements support, i doubt mess would be an exception

It looks like RetroArch 1.9.6 now supports Watara SuperVision (Potator). Can version RetroArch 1.9.6 be added to the RetroPie setup script? I think it currently allows 1.9.5.

@kcoconnor76 based on the previous posts, wasn't 1.9.3 the version that was needed by the Watara Core ?

@mitu It appears the 1.9.3 version I had downloaded was the nightly version and not the stable version. Now the latest stable version 1.9.6 supports Watara SuperVision.

@kcoconnor76 I don't understand - if RetroArch v1.9.3 supports the core, then surely v1.9.5 should too. You can download the core from libretro's buildbot server and see if it works.

@mitu It isn't in the list of downloadable emulators in the RetroPie script. When I downloaded 1.9.5 on my laptop in RetroArch, Potator wasn't listed there either. It was only listed with 1.9.6.

It appeared to me the nightly version 1.9.3 did allow Potator to be downloaded, but not the stable 1.9.5. It wasn't in the list.

It isn't, since it's not part of RetroPie.

Downloading cores is disabled in the RetroPie's RetroArch's config. If you want to add a core that's not part of RetroPie setup script, you'll have to do it manually and configure a system for it.

Follow this tutorial : Development of module-script generator for lr-mess and mame standalone

You'll be able to run Watara Supervision with lr-Mess and MAME standalone

@folly Is it a big deal to create a script for Potator ?

They say a libretro core exit here

I don't see it as an available core for the armhf linux distros (which includes Raspbian OS). So Potator might not be usable on RetroPie yet.

Here's the Libretro nightly download of pre-compiled cores we can currently use.

                                    https://buildbot.libretro.com/nightly/linux/armhf/latest/

Maybe there's something still to code within Potator?

Looking in to the source, there doesn't seem to be a direct makefile for linux.
                                      I can't compile the source.
I would say it's beyond my level now.

If you really want, you can try and use the windows binary within box86/wine :

To me, lr-mess/mame seems to be the best option here.
