Resolved: Coco Emulation Issues
-
Hi all. I am relatively new to emulation in general. I am having issues getting anything to run in the XROAR coco emulator. I have searched the forums but was unable to find the exact issue I am having. Per the rules, here is the basic pertinent info
Model: Pi400
Powersupply: unlabeled but came with an official kit
Retropie Version: 4.7.1
Built from: Raspberry Pi Image Burner
USB Devices: Mouse, Keyboard built in(400), XBox Controller (USB)
Controller Used: XBOX controller is connected but haven't entered any programs successfully
Error Message Received:I have installed a variety of .dsk files in the ROMS folder. I have installed the bas13.rom
When I boot the splash screen shows the Tandy option and shows the file names for all of the .dsk images in my directoryWhen I choose a game, the screen loads to the green Color Basic 1.3 screen
I then receive a ?SN ERROR message followed by the OK prompt. In several of the posts I read, it sounds like disk images required a command line start but I am unable to use the DIR command, the LOADM command, etc. I was able to code a simple basic program and basic works fine. I did read a post that said certain files were intended for Coco3 and that XROAR only works for Coco 2. I have tried a total of 45 different games (most of which were early gen Coco like Sands of Egypt, Madness and the Minotaur (text) and have had the exact same results which lead me to believe I have a configuration issue rather than the choice of dsk files. I'm guessing it might be something simple that I have missed but a solution eludes me.

I made some progress and figured I would share some updates in the event that anyone runs into this issue. I found a Youtube tutorial to utilize Xroar for Coco Emulation on the PC. I had no installed the disk11.rom or the extbas11.rom. Based on the Retropie doc file, only the bas13.rom is mentioned so it might be worth a minor update.
Here is the Youtube video for reference if anyone would like.
I also ran into some issues with everything being in black and white but with some searching Ctrl-A resolved the issue.
Hopefully this helps someone down the road if they run into this.
