How to reduce LAG

Greetings to all.

Is there any chance of reducing the lag I perceived in some games also affecting sound?

I have retropie updated and mounted on a Raspberry Pi 3 B + and I would like to improve performance in some games with poor performance without resorting to the device overclocking.

I think with the data that I have provided should be enough to guide myself in this matter, but it does not cost me any job of providing additional information if necessary.

Device: Raspberry Pi 3 B +
Retropie: v4.7.2 (official installation)
Emulators: lr-mame-2003, lr-mame-2010

@fernaretro that's not enough information. please give ALL the information in the link, for a specific game with lag.

@fernaretro still not enough "data". What games .. some of the newer games just won't run on a Pi3b+ because the unit doesn't have enough horsepower

Remember...you are EMULATING a dedicated ROM/cpu/chipset that was built to play the game on very specific hardware. MAME tries it's best to reproduce that game using code language and processing power of the machine you have. It will NEVER compare to the original hardware.

A Pi3b+ is pretty good at emulating the older games, but once you're into the Mortal Combat and Neo-Geo stuff and newer, it will struggle.

So again, post a list of games. But I'll say this first, if you're playing high end 3d Arcade games, there is not much you can do about the issue other than move-up to a Pi4 or consider a dedicated PC running MAME.

Obviously, I understand that with games that use more advanced graphics, by the hardware limitations of my Raspberry, they do not go as silk. However with others that apparently do not seem so demanding they present a perceptible lag, affecting even sound.

I could not tell you what specific games this problem occurs because I would have to review them again, considering that I have a collection of more than 600 games, but I thought that adjusting advanced settings in some of the menus could be gained fluent .

Anyway, if I cute again with some that gives me problems I will tell you.

A couple of general tips:

If you have a digital television, the first thing to do would be to switch it to "Game Mode" if it has one.

Also if you have a wireless controller you might try a wired controller to see if that helps. The reality is that wireless will never respond as fast as a wired controller. Difference is probably slight though.

I have 44 systems running well over 3500 games across them... all on a Pi3b+ standard settings, no overclocking. I get pretty good results until the Amiga 1200/IBM PC/Atari St/Apple IIgs era of games. Then it's a little touch-and-go with the performance. I don't run any N64 and very few PS1 games. No PSP games at all.

I'm thinking it's time to move up to a Pi4, but I'm waiting till the next revision. From what I've read, it will be returning back to a standard HDMI slot which is what I want.
