So I originally had my Retropie set up on a Raspberry Pi 3B+, and decided to move up to a low cost, AMD Phenom-powered PC. I finally got around to setting it up. I backed up my Pi's configs, roms, splashscreens, and bios on an external drive to move over to this new PC, but I am running into a snag. No matter what I do, I can't connect to the PC like I could the Pi to merge these files. It doesn't show up on my Mac's network section, the IP address fails on putty but is very much connected to my WiFi. What do I do?

Did you install and enabled the Samba shares from the RetroPie-Setup script ?

@mitu nope I don’t believe so. How would I go about that?

Open the 'Configration / Tools' menu in RetroPie-Setup and enable the shares. Note that some configuration files will not be compatible between the systems, I'd advise agains copying the Retroarch configurations over and just copy the EmulationStation configuration first.

@mitu Alright, enabled Samba, and the issue is still here. No matter if I use the IP for Samba, PuTTY, or WinSCP it says the host is unreachable. Can I just use the USB transfer method with how ROMS can be ported over with the configs and bios?

Are you sure the system is not blocked by your router ? Check if the IP of the system is reachable from your other system. You can find out your IP from the RetroPie system in EmulationStation, there's an entry to print the current address.

Since you have the desktop installed, just plug in an USB stick with the data and then Ubuntu should auto-mount it and you can manually copy the data over.

@mitu How do I go about that? I'm very Linux-versed yet, I've only minimally played with it.

@mcjones9631 You'll have to be more specific - what exactly are you finding difficult ?

@mitu Where would I move the folders to? I know and direct network attach on Mac the only files that were visible were the BIOS and config files. Where would they be located in Ubuntu to allow me to copy them over?

The shares you see over the network are located as follows:

                        • configs share is /opt/retropie/configs
                        • roms share is $HOME/RetroPie/roms
                        • bios share is $HOME/RetroPie/BIOS

As I said earlier, I wouldn't recommend copying the configs entirely, just start with the configs/all/emulationstation folder and maybe configs/all/retroarch-joypads folder so you keep your controllers' settings.

@mitu Alright, moved those over and everything seems good! Only issue I'm running into is that in any game I get a pop up that says "✔️ USB Gamepad (121/17) not configured" even though I moved over the config for the same controller.
