Gameshark was only available for a few consoles. It lets the player cheat almost any way they can imagine. Because, I believe that it messes with the internal programming code of the game. All that is needed is to know a enter a specific Gameshark code. Which is different for every cheat. Would it ever be possible to integrate a Gameshark with Retropie? Even if it is only for specific consoles?

Yes, cheats are available, depending on the emulator used. RetroArch is the main emulator used in a lot of systems and it supports cheats - see the doc page on how to enable and use cheats.
