X68000 lr-px68k core - Spacebar issue on joypad

When attempting to register a spacebar click via the joypad SELECT button or any reassignment the games do not recognize this. I am using version 4.7.19 with core binary as of the latest update. I have tried both an 8bitdo Pro 2 Plus in Xbox-360 mode and a PS4 wired controller with the same results.
Has anyone been able to have confirmed success of the space key being recognized correctly?
