    Pi Model or other hardware: Pi4
    Power Supply used: Pi Standard
    RetroPie Version Used: 4.6
    Built From: RetroPie website image

    I'm taking my Pi away on holiday so just turned it on this morning to make sure everything works. I'm finding that my Hotkey does not work on my joypads anymore. It has always been fine previously.

    The only thing I can think that has caused an issue is that I disconnected and reconnected some bluetooth joypads earlier today.

    Now, Del works as my hotkey for my keyboard but even if I only have one joypad turned on via Bluetooth and no keyboard from the start of firing up the Pi, Select does not work as a hotkey and I cannot exit games. Please help! I'm confused.

    I could do a jstest and then select the button that is select for a specific joypad, I guess. But then I would be tied to using that joypad. This has just always worked as Select on any pad previously.

    Here is my retroarch.cfg: https://pastebin.com/vn8Eyw3H

    Thank you,
    Adam

    Edit: On further investigation, this is just an issue with Bluetooth pads. Wired pads work okay. All my wireless pads are 8bitdo, I have 3.

        @adambegood said in Help! My Hotkey isn't working anymore for Bluetooth joypads:

        Indeed your "del" key is configured for enabling the hotkeys :

        input_enable_hotkey = "del"

        It seems your joystick isn't configured properly :

        # input_enable_hotkey_btn =

        You should :

        • uncomment the line (remove #)
        • find the number of your "select" button with jstest
        • add that number to the line with " "

        I think that will be the solution, let me know if it works.

        Good luck, and have a nice holiday.

          @folly Cheers!

          I am sure your solution would have worked but as my wired controllers are working fine I didn't want to mess with them.

          I found the individual Bluetooth controller configs in /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads and amended them there. For some reason, the hotkey had been changed in each of them, when I reconnected them as Bluetooth devices. I changed all of those and now it is all working fine.

          How are you anyway? What are you working on at the moment?

            @adambegood

            Nice to hear you have found a good solution !

            I am doing fine !
            Soon I have 2 weeks off from work ;-)
            I want to do some nice things.

            I am also planning on going to an old friend.
            (because we already postponed several time because of corona)
            He has build an 1:1 scale F1 simulator with pedals and steering wheel that have the feel of an original F1 racing car.
            Now he has it's own company with a friend who sell these pedals all over the world.
            So I am quite curious what he has made.

              @folly I am up in the English "Lake District", which is the wettest part of England. This week has also been an especially wet week... We haven't gone out that much. It's been okay though.

              Very excited to hear about this F1 simulator! Sounds mad! What game does it play - or has he written his own game?

                Here the sun is shining the last couple of days ;-).
                Hopefully tomorrow the same weather because I have to work 1 day on the island because of shortage in personnel.

                I haven't been to his man-cave yet, but he does some amazing stuff.

                He is active on you-tube, here are some links, so you can look for yourself ;-) :

                  @folly I'll have a look, I've subscribed to his YouTube now!

                  Hope the island wasn't too wet when you went.

                  Are you on your time off now? Hope you're having a good time. Our weather didn't get a lot better up North but now I'm back in London it's been blue skies since my return to working from home - typical!

                    @adambegood

                    I had a nice day on the island, nice weather too.
                    Still a few free days left, but it goes quick.

                    Now busy with some stuff someone gave to me, otherwise he threw it away.
                    A small mini laptop a PSP and some smartphones.

                    Got the mini laptop and PSP running again ;-)
                    Installed linux with retropie on the mini laptop and works quite good.

                    Now we have rain too but we had some sunny moments too.

                      @adambegood

                      Yesterday I went to that old friend and we did some racing in that simulator.

                      Well, it's really an unbelievable experience !

                      The simulator has realistic movements all over, above that you make use of a VR-glasses.
                      Damn, it so realistic that it feels you are on a real circuit.
                      I even got a bit car-sick, which i normally don't have, that says it all.
                      But believe me, it's a very expensive hobby.

                        @folly Hello!

                        That sounds amazing. VR is pretty immersive anyway, I've got Asseto Corsa working on mine with some texture packs and it is pretty good. With mechanical movement going on as well, it must be incredible!

                        I am sure it is not cheap, and I am very sure it is time-consuming!

                        The gear you got from your friend sounds fun. Have you got the PSP working? I wonder what that can run so far as emulation is concerned. It's probably more powerful than Pi, right? Although I guess emulation is less optimised for it

                          @adambegood

                          Got the PSP working again.
                          I revived the old battery, I had to disassemble it, and charge it directly with the internals of a usb backup battery.
                          After that the PSP would charge the old battery again.

                          It came with the game TEKKEN.
                          I knew it had great graphics but never had one in my hands.
                          For it's time it has a great screen, quite impressive.
                          And you can just pause the game and play further later on.

                          I also got a PS2, I have to test and clean it.

                          The guy that I got the stuff from bought a PS5,
                          I also played with "Destiny" a bit. (WOW, unbelievable )
                          But I think I am more into the old computer games ;-)

                            @folly Sounds like great progress! Ingenious work with the PSP battery.

                            I bet PS2 is decent for emulation, they are powerful enough in retro terms. PSP seems more fun - I like the handheld retro aspect.

                            I've got an XBox One and a decent laptop as well, I like modern and retro. There is some messing around to get games to work sometimes on Windows - I had trouble with Jurrasic World Evolution this week, took me a day to get it working (it didn't like booting up in anything other than 60hz 1080p). I'm playing Halo Infinite now as well - it is so good for a free game (only the multiplayer is free though).
