Every time I launch anything, it crashes, and goes back to the select screen. I reinstalled retropie and it still happens, does anyone know a fix? (raspberry pi 3b)

@pyraisanerd Most likely you don't have any emulators installed or you're using the wrong emulator. Without more info I'm just guessing. If you have a good emulator for your hardware then just use the proper romset for that emulator.

If you pick-and-choose ROMs from a random website then you have no idea what you really have,

        "Emulator A" needs an "A" version ROM/game.
        "Emulator B" needs a "B" version ROM/game.

@pyraisanerd maybe missing BIOS files for systems as well? Bad ROMs. Wrong version of ROM?

No idea as you didn't following the guidline to post tech support questions.

@jamrom2 Yeah, missing/bad/incorrect BIOS file could be the culprit too. Depending on the system.

@iandaemon I've also pulled down roms and found they were double zipped... zipped inside zipped... or inside a folder inside a zip.

BIOS could be good, but named wrong.. as is the case with atari800 and a few others.
