Usb flash drive
-
Ok so random, sorry if obvious question. But does the usb flash drive that is used to install roms etc on retropie need to be a new/cleared 1? Thanks
-
No, it's not necessary to new, you can create the ROM transfer folder on an existing USB drive without clearing or deleting the folders you already have.
-
@mitu oh thanks. I asked because when i created a new folder, then inserted it into pi, then back in to my mac there wasnt the created folders that should have been?

Please more info about your setup as, as detailed in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.
How is the flash drive formatted ? If Linux cannot read/write to it, it won't work.
-
@mitu its not formatted to the fat32, would that be why?

@persephale It's the same as flashing a sdcard, if your Pi supports booting from USB. Pi4 should have this by default, for the Pi3 you still need a sdcard in order to boot RaspiOS and enable USB booting. See https://www.raspberrypi.com/documentation/computers/raspberry-pi.html#usb-mass-storage-boot for more details on Pi USB boot support.
