I have just started my Pi4 up again after 9 months of not using it (parenting yay). I have previously been running RetroPie and had been able to boot it up and run roms from a USB HDD with no issues. I have now been unable to boot using the emulatiostation command.

I have completely started again now, from scratch as it the pi4 was new out the box. Done all sudo updates and upgrades.

I have then followed the Manual installation guide so I can use the desktop on the pi4. Everything seems to be going right until I try to boot to emulationstation. It doesn't recognise the command at all.

      Amy ideas?

If you are using the latest RasPi OS version (based on Bullseye), then RetroPie is not yet compatible with it. You can still use the desktop if you use the RetroPie image - see here. Just install from the RetroPIe image and then add the desktop.

@mitu that's great! I honestly thought I was losing my mind! I shall now try and sort it without updating to the latest OS firmware.
