I'm doing a new fresh build after a few years and I noticed that Bubble bobble is the only game I have on there that does not save a high score, It's not creating a .hi or anything. I've tried several different roms as well thinking something else might work.
      Thanks for any help

What's the ROM name ? There are a lot of Bubble Bobble clones and variations for arcades.

@mitu sorry I thought I added it. bubbobr1.zip this is the one I'm currently using I got that from this romset MAME_2003-Plus_Reference_Set_2018, I've tried others from that set also a couple others from different mame 0.78 set none create the .hi
These are a few of the others I tried
          bublbobl.zip
          bublboblu.zip
          bublbobr.zip
          bublbobl1.zip

@WedgeStar Only the romsets mentioned in your hiscore.dat file are likely to keep hiscores through .hi files. Any other romset will either not save hiscores at all, or maybe save them through nvram. It's not guaranteed either that romsets mentioned in hiscore.dat will save hiscores, there could be other issues (bad entry, emulator bug, ...), but making sure it is should be your first step before reporting an issue to the authors of mame2003+.

@barbudreadmon Thanks You, that pointed me in the right direction, I scrolled through the .dat and found the compatible names, I remembered seeing the .dat file wasn't used anymore (guess thats wrong) so I spaced on it. Thanks Again

These are the compatible names for mame 2003 + hiscore.dat saves if anyone that ends up in my spot, I'm using boblbobl.zip its a bootleg but work perfect for me at least

mame2003 is from 2003, even if current mame didn't need that file (afaik it still does), that wouldn't concern a 2 decades old version of that emulator.

FYI proper save state support for Bubble Bobble and the other game in that driver Tokio wasn't added until a much later version of MAME
0.135u2: Fabio Priuli added save state support to Bubble Bobble driver.
