Emulation Station crashes every second or third startup
-
Pi Model or other hardware: Raspberry Pi 4B, 2Gig
Power Supply used: CanaKit Raspberry Power Adapter
RetroPie Version Used: 4.8
Built From: Pre made SD Image on RetroPie website
USB Devices connected: EG Starts 2x USB Encoders
Controller used: 2 SANWA Joysticks, 10 buttons/side
Error messages received: Emulation Station Crashed! If this is your first..New build of full-size arcade machine and I'm new to this world. Emulation Station crashed every 2 or 3 reboots. A bit frustrating. I replaced both encoders with two SJJX Zero Delay Units, and the problem appears to be solved, at least for now. Has anyone else encountered problems with the EG Starts encoders, or has the problem resolved itself for some other unknown reason?
Thanks

Seems similar to https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/32435/, a recent topic with the same type of encoders and same symptoms.

@mitu
Similar, but not the same problem, when I use the Easyget encoders, emulationstation doesn’t crash every time, just about 50% or so of the time. So the problem isn’t consistent. Replacing the encoders has solved the problem, just hoping that I’m missing something and I can still use the Easyget encoders on my next build -

Check the other topic and see if the diagnostic commands (
dmesg
) show the same behavior from the encoders - i.e. spurious/frequence connect/disconnect events. Try the advice to add theusbhid.quirks
and see if it solves the disconnects. If not, then I don't know how this can be solved.
