For what it's worth, I bought one of these SJ@JX controllers on alix, and it wasn't detecting as a USB gamepad (or wasn't working at all).

I download and ran the .exe that @bryantjblair shared and it's now working and detecting as I'd expect.

@Mike_Hulley said in Emulation Station crashes every second or third startup:

just hoping that I’m missing something and I can still use the Easyget encoders on my next build

Check the other topic and see if the diagnostic commands (dmesg) show the same behavior from the encoders - i.e. spurious/frequence connect/disconnect events. Try the advice to add the usbhid.quirks and see if it solves the disconnects. If not, then I don't know how this can be solved.

Alas, I can't help you with that. But if you can't find information about ZDE internals, you could also try to find information about USB HID device specifications in general, as the encoders "just" convert the raw signals to those of a joystick-like USB HID.

@caver01 i also should mention, the biggest reason why the intellivision is hard to get used to. Most games arent designed for you to tap up down left right. They are designed to have you "roll" around the disk from one position to another. Auto racing wont work at all tapping left and right. The whole top half of the disc determines the position of the steering wheel. So pressing up is straight and as you roll right or left it determines how far you are turning the steering wheel. This design really takes a lot of getting used to.

And i think an Arduino Leonardo can emulate keyboard input...
